Of your total property tax bill - Lake County government keeps only 7%. The rest is distributed to 319 other taxing districts in the county - with schools getting the biggest piece. Lake County's median market value of a home is $282,000. County government receives about $390 of that property tax payment.

Only one third of the county's budget comes from property taxes. Other major revenue sources include:

Charges for service, like water bills

Federal and state grant cdollars

Motor fuel taxes

Sales, income and business taxes

Payments from other governments

Lake County spends about $390 million annually. Some- towards capital improvements such as roads, sewers etc. 27% of the annual budget goes toward law and judicial services. Another 27% is dedicated to health and community services.
