Some of you are already familiar with Google's new tool -- Google Suggest. Well, now the whole world will know about it, because Google is launching it from their lab page and placing it "by default" on their homepage starting Sept. 1st.

For those that don't know, basically Google Suggest enables you to find something or someone quicker when you only have partial information.  As soon as you are typing a word or phrase, Google Search will give you a suggestion box below by guessing what you are typing --- and it does it in "Real Time." It is a refined search tool that should save the individual a little time and possibly save you a customer.

It gives you the following features ---

1) Helps formulate queries.

2) Reduces spelling errors.

3) Saves keystrokes.

Example: When someone is searching for MovingHelp.com -- as soon as they type in "moving h" our business name is populated in the suggestion box.

Check it out --- click --> Google.com/labs  ---Look on right hand column - first item.

Kevin,

Thanks for the tip, but this doesn't sound any different than the google search window I've been using for several months. I'll check it out anyway.

Steve - I am sure it is the same one since it has been on the Google Lab site for several months. You must have gone out and found it earlier. However, the announcement that just came out said it would now automatically show up on Google's default page...so now everyone will have it.

I've been testing this out for few months and love it.  It comes up with keywords that are sometimes better than what I started out with.

I am sold on what Google is doing myself.  Their shared docs and web based tools are really the future.

Rick - I do wonder what the future holds for us with Google. Will they achieve world domination? Will we sacrifice privacy for convenience? Seems like we are today and probably tomorrow.

I didnt like it and dont like it. After seeing this pop up I see the value but being a trained typist now thanks to google etc I see no need in having something shorten what I am looking for. I would rather have the words I typed in before. Most of the time I am searching the same key phrases and dont like it filling in the blank for me.

Eau - There is always the flip side to every new tool. I can see where it would be a pain for those that don't need the auto-fill words. Never thought of it from a trained typist perspective.

Cindy - Hummm., it should be showing up now when you go to Google. As soon as you start typing a word...google auto populates suggested words...guessing at where you want to go in your search. Thank you for your comment.

Ron - I am glad you stopped by. I hope you enjoy your experience on AR. You will find a ton of good resources and a lot of helpful people.

I just went out to Google and tried it.  This is kinda cool, but how many times are you really not sure about what you are looking for?  I guess Google though it was important enough to create.

Is this service active now...I haven't seen it pop up when I go to Google.com or Google.ca as yet?

12:52pm • #22

Yes --- if you go to www.google.com -- once you start typing letters in the search box you will see some options that automatically show up below the box. If you don't see it, you may need to reinstall the latest Google.

I will have to look into this more...it's not happening for me. Do you know if you might have to sign into your personal google ?
