Please, please let the fleas be gone.

cat fleaIt seems easier somehow to find an REO house already empty.  You can call the locksmith, change the locks and proceed trying to get it ready to market.  I found one the other day, the locksmith came quickly and secured it.

Back in my office while giving me the bill, he kept scratching.  He had picked up fleas in the house and he couldn't wait to get home to do his strip search.  A neighbor told us that the owner had three cats inside.  He also said she hadn't been moved long and he'd helped her move.

That was Friday so it was Monday before I could get the exterminator over there.  He groaned.  "Oh, it's hard to get rid of fleas.  It may take several treatments."  I didn't believe him.  On Thursday he thought I might be able to get in for photos.  The floor was still wet with spray but I got the pictures.

Today, several days later, I went back inside.  I tread softly and carefully and sure nuff, they were still there!  Little ones probably just hatched.  Plus big ones that had escaped what should have been sure death.  I called the exterminator and told him he has to get back over there.

This is the first flea-ridden house that I've had in years.  I can't figure out how a family could live in a house with so many fleas and I can't figure out why it is so hard to get rid of them.

I do know that I don't like having them appear on my face or neck while I'm visiting with a client.  It somehow is just not ladylike to reach up and pick a flea off your cheek and crush him in front of your visitor.  Worse yet is to pick him off and then lose him and you know he's still in your office or your car!!

They are probably worse than roaches to get rid of.  The problem is the eggs keep hatching and you get new fleas.

That's not a good thing to hear, Gene Allen!  Thanks for comments.

Barbara, have you ever heard of using "grated orange peel."  I swear, I tried in when we had them in a house and it either worked or unseen forces intervened:)  Some times there actually is some truth in these old folk remedies.  Plus it makes the house smell nice.

Oh I feel for you! Some years ago, I showed a foreclosure property to an elderly lady. We both had white tennis shoes on and it was clear/sunny. We waved to the neighbor sitting on his porch across the street as we walked up to the door - I unlocked and we stepped in. Not ten seconds later we were running out of the home!

The neighbor came across the street laughing. He told me the listing agent had done the same thing a week before! The home was infested with fleas - listing agent "forgot" to tell me that! Our white shoes were BLACK!

I was paranoid for weeks of finding fleas in my home, car and office.

BarbaraI once visited an awful foreclosed home that was so bad that my pants were black with the little boogers. I pulled into a car wash and vacuumed myself.

Charles, how would I get enough grated orange peel to put all over the house?  Is that something you buy?  I do believe in home remedies.

Debbie, what a terrible neighbor.  He could have warned you.  Guess he got his jollies seeing people run out of the house!  Thanks for comments.

Trey, wonder what happened to the little boogers once they were in the vacuum?  I can't believe they are so hard to treat.

You just walk around the house with an orange, and grate the thing while you walk---just takes a little everywhere.  Also, you guys down there have tornados and hurricanes and hella thunderstorms-----are you sure fleas aren't just another kind of weather?

Charles!  By the time I walk all around grating an orange the fleas will have carried me away!  I guess I'd better talk to Steve about your meds again......  We rain cats and dogs here and they may have a few fleas.

I haven't been in a flea infested house in years. You have to keep spraying until you get rid of all the generations. It does take awhile...

That is a really disgusting picture. I used to sell homes that were infested with fleas.  Back in the days when we wore nylons. I'd come out of the house with legs completely black with fleas.

Michael, you're discouraging with this flea analysis.  By the way, I tagged you for a meme.  Go read mine today and I put your name in it.

Cathleen, that's a bad story.  I did learn years ago to stick a piece of white paper in the front door and if fleas hop on it, don't go in.  I don't know how people live with the things.

Barbara - round 'em up, sell 'em to a circus (help with those marketing costs). I have generally found that two bombs usually work, kills the adults and then, after the eggs hatch kills the little ones.

Mike Saunders, you're as funny as Charles Buell who says to go over and grate organge peel all over the house!  The bug killer sprays.  I wish he'd use bombs too.

I have had cats for years and fleas can be a huge pain. Vets love them because they make money off cat allergies. Or you can do like Charlie, just get used to them and try to not scratch when anyone is looking.

Steven, that's funny.  I think I got into chiggers yesterday.  That will have to be another blog but you people don't know what a chigger is, I'll bet.

I have heard of chiggers. Do they burrow into your hide? I could, of course, do like Charlie and race to Wikipedia and then tell you more about them than I actually know.

Isn't the REO business great!!!! Never know what your going to get when you walk thru that door for the first time.

Never had the flea ordeal so no advice from me as to killing the little buggers.

Make sure you take before & after pictures for your reimbursement. LOL

Steven, before I do my blog on chiggers I must go to Wikipedia.  I need to know how to treat the things!

Cameron, there are few dull moments in the REO business.  This is actually my first flea-ridden house.  Surprising when you see how much pet damage we find.....
