John McCain is BAD for NEVADA!

John McCain openly supports Yucca Mountain, a nuclear waste repository, even though there has been evidence that states Yucca Mountain is unsafe and should not be used to store nuclear waste.  Yucca Mountain is only 90 miles outside of Las Vegas.  One study done by Clark County estimates Las Vegas will see a drop of 10% to 15% in tourism resulting in a loss of $1.7 billion in gaming revenue.  This will result in job cuts, high unemployment rates, drop in home values and so much more.  John McCain is BAD for NEVADA!

Barack Obama has from the beginning been against a nuclear repository at Yucca Mountain!

Many of the blogs that I have read on Active Rain have been pro McCain and have been pretty negative towards Obama.  It's my opinion that many are just not entirely informed.  Obama has stated he will be raising taxes only for upper middle class and small businesses, but promises middle class tax relief and some exemptions for seniors. He also backs business tax breaks for start-up companies.

The economy is the most important issue to the American people and it's unfortunate McCain is weakest in this area.  McCain made this statement in 2005, "I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign-policy issues. I still need to be educated," he told The Wall Street Journal in November 2005.  Foreign policy is very important, for crying out loud, we are in a recession and need somebody that can put us on the right road to a strong economy.  McCain has many of the same views as President Bush when it comes to the economy and look where President Bush has taken us!

McCain is all about Foreign Policy and Iraq!  I'm sorry, I am tired of spending my tax dollars on rebuilding Iraq especially when I have friends that have lost their homes and jobs.  It's time for our military to come home!  I have two brothers currently serving in the United States Military (Marines and Army) and their lives are worth more to me than us (Unites States) trying to secure oil contracts for our American Oil Companies.  McCain has no intention on bringing our troops home!

It's time for change, Obama brings the hope of change, McCain brings us 4 more years of the Bush Administration!

***UPDATE***

McCain has recently added Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice President. As much as I like this choice, too bad it's on McCain's ticket!

Shouldn't that be a state thing? Why does the federal government have a say in what Nevada does.

And neither one of these guys knows how to run the economy. Nobody does. The economy runs itself and it works better when the Federal government keeps it's nose out of it.

When governments try to run everything in the economy you wind up with Socialism and Communist Russia. No thanks.

I'm not a huge McCain fan either but I can never vote for a socialist liberal, and that's Obama.

Oh I wish Ron Paul would have done better.

Tina, when politics can affect real estate, am I not entitled to inform others? Yucca Mountain will affect real estate in Las Vegas and thats a FACT!

Yeha lets jst give the presidency to someone who:

Associates with known racists.

Associates with known terrorists.

Who wants to tax those casinos and every other business in Nevada and the country into oblivion.

Who wants to Socialize Healthcare so you and I while free will not be able toget the health care we need because there will be a 3 year waiting period for an MRI.

Who wants to socialize the oil industry( Big Oil made about 11B in profits on over 100B in revenue. The federal governtment made 36B in tax revenue on that same amount). Name one government ran anything that works.

A man who man not even be eligible to run for president due to the question of his birth being in Hawaii,  and refuses to produse his Hawaiian birth certificate.

A man with no military training right in the middle of our most crucial time in modern History due to the threats to our safety here at home.

A man who was not even elected to the Senate and was only there because his opponent had to drop out of the race.

A man who thinks there are 58 states in America.

I don't think it really matters. No matter where they decide to store Nuclear Waste there will always be those that will respond 'not in my backyard". Unfortunately the nuclear waste has to be stored somewhere. Maybe we could ship it to Iraq or Afganistan for storage. Sean Allen

Sean,

I think each state should be responsible for storing their own nuclear waste!

Politics should be out of here and if you are talking politics, you should do your homework and know of what you speak. You are supporting putting us back ten years. I am amazed at how we get on a hope band wagn and never do our hone work. Just know there are no free rides.

Why are we talkin politics here ?

9:45pm • #10

Well if you read the blog you will see why :)  The purpose of the blog was to discuss YUCCA MOUNTAIN!  Hope that clears it up for you?

Hey Tony. Looks like you got a nice little debate with this post. Good job.

Hey Tina. You have over 100,000 real estate agents posting their stuff here. How much real estate can someone handle. I know I barely read any of that stuff.

Let the guy speak his mind on something that is important to him.  It's his blog.  You don't have to read it.

As a Californian.. we voted in a charismatic Govenator who promised us "he would do things differently" and he was for "change"... well we got it. Our debt rolled into a bond so now we can saddle our children and grandchildren with our bad spending habits. State employees making federal minimum wage (not the higher California minimum wage) because they can't pass a budget.... Hey, but we pay less in car taxes (his main platform). Undisclosed "Change"... no thank you!

David,

Why do we need to have a central location to house nuclear waste?  Why can't the states that build nuclear power plants house their own nuclear waste and secure it properly?  What about the transfer of the this waste across the United States?  You think transfering nuclear waste across the country via trucks and railway is going to be very safe from terrorist attacks?  I think not!  Do you know that many railways make there way through major cities?  Most of this country's nuclear waste will be traveling through major cities on it's way to Yucca Mountain!

What about your backyard?

Agree with Carl. Let each state handle its own waste and keep the federal goverment out of it. We need more nuclear plants. No one wants it in their back yard, but it has to go somewhere and if it is put into safe storage, I wouldn't worry about it and I certainly wouldn't change my vacation plans over it. Las Vegas losing tourists over this is just a lot of hype - once it is built, people will forget about it and all the hoopla associated with it. And for the people who don't like politics on this forum - are you going to tell people to keep their kids, their dogs, their vacations and their recipes off of the site too?

Hey Tony, look what you started here LOL... While I may not agree with you (I support John McCain) I do support your right to free speech and think healthy discussions are good on important topics as it's the only way to move forward.

Thanks Sharon! I think discussions like this are healthy as it gives others the chance to voice their opinion and share information that others might not be aware.
