This is a Re-Blog so to speak to provide additional awareness and promote blogger rights.

The Blog in reference is from Tina Merrit's Blog "A Sad Story of A Wonderful Blogger"

Naoma is actually a real good friend of mine who I met when I first started in the Mortgage Industry.  We both pretty much started our Loan Officer careers together and kept a good relationship in the office and outside aswell.

Its no surpise that this story has hit hard with me witnessing Naoma's past success from blogging and her passion in blogging even while pregnant!

Naoma was even the one who invited me to blog on Activerain.  It truly saddens me to see her ambition, passion and devotion in blogging being stripped away and placed on mute while she works for her current employer.

This however is all too common nowadays.  Since Blogging is a free-form type of advertising and expressing of ones opinions in a rapid  and uncensored way many major companies are afraid that certain individuals may portray a bad rep on-line.

Now I could easily gripe about how Corporate America is so unfair and how wrong this situation is but

I choose to take a different approach.......

My approach on this subject is realizing how powerful blogging can be and how fortunate for the ones who haven't been muted.

We bloggers need to cherich what we have and realize that we have a powerful voice and opinion that we can share with the world.  You don't realize how good you got it until it's gone.

I am sure Naoma will be back into blogging in the future with either her current company removing those rules or joining a different company all together.

The point is that companies will try to control your online voice but they will never take away our right to voice our opinion.  We have the tools and knowledge at our very fingertips especially here on Activerain and now more than ever is the time to take advantage of our blogging platform.

Don't let your blogs sit idle or ideas go unheard, appreciate what we have before its too late and you might find yourself muted too by Corporate America...

"Happy Blogging"

Justin, I believe in the inalienable right of free speech - sounds like those who don't have it need to find a new company to work for - or start their own.

How can this company look at themselves in the mirror. I would encourage my employees to get involved. maybe pre-approve anything controversial, but this is her opinion not theirs.

@ Unknown - Exactly!  Her blogs are views expressed by her opinion and her opinion alone, I think all blogs should have the standard disclaimer, but her company also restricted ALL online content aswell!

That is ridiculous! Whatever happened to individual's rights! I'm sure while you work for someone else, you have to give them your time and efforts while at work, but after work, your time and your life are just that - YOURS! What you do with it, shouldn't be anybody's else business! I'm sorry to hear about Naoma!

Justin:  There are even some real estate companies that will not allow their agents to blog.  They feel that allowing it would open the brokerage to possible litigation if the blogging agent broke some sort of law... like talking about equal rights, price-fixing, or libel or slander.

I am guessing that if you owned the company she worked for, and her blogging brought on a lawsuit... and that made YOU liable for damages... you might feel differently.

Justin, if I was tried to be censored  by a company I would leave. It clearly says the writing is not the responsibility of Activerain. Of course Keller Williams now has a blogging coach and free blogs on their web site so I don't think it would be a problem !

@ Karen - I appreciate your views on this matter and I can agree that yes there are reasons why companies have this in place but to a point in where its to a an extreme where Naoma can't have anything online with her name and mortgage/loan officer of anything related to the real estate industry.  She can not have a digital foot print online not even on myspace or facebook to show she works for Wachovia.  Now this is a bit extreme don't ya think?

@ Missy - Keller Williams is truly a pinoneer and admire them ;)

Thanks for the reblog Justin!  Naoma - it's so good to know that just because we can't "see" you, we know you are still out there watching.  We'll figure out some way to get you back here!

Justin, it's a sad day when a corporation (who Naoma represented very well) won't let her do what she was obviously very good at! We miss you Naoma and hoping to see you back in action on Activerain.

Justin,

I hope that it nevers come to that in the place where I work but by the time I get in trouble from it i'll already be reaping all the SEO benefits and growing my business.  Guess i'd just have to change my name to Dallaire Realty.
