So when does Katerina ever sleep
So When Does Katerina Ever Sleep?

This is the most asked question that I get in emails and comments.

So for the Question Of The Week; I will answer your question about when do I sleep.

katerina gasset

I believe that sleep is overrated. I will have plenty of time to sleep when I get to heaven, or maybe not. But life is so full of exciting things to do that I do get by with less sleep than many people.

Alarm Clocks? I don't believe in using alarm clocks to wake up. The only time I use them is when I have a plane to catch. I wake up naturally, when my mind wakes me up.

I recently read a blog post on a natural health site where a man of the age of 70 was super healthy and only slept 4 hours a night. He said that he loved life so much that he did not want to miss out on life by working during the day. He makes his money running an on line business and works it from 10 p.m. to 2 or 3 a.m. Then he sleeps from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.. He lives on the beach so he then gets up and takes a walk on the beach with his wife. They sit down to have breakfast, talk and then he works out with his weights and some Plates. He reads, goes out to lunch with friends, socializes, enjoys activities and events, has dinner, dances, enjoys music and more. After his wife goes to sleep he works. He is planning on living many more years. I read his story and said to myself, that is how I try to live my life too. I just don't want to miss life. I have been this way my whole life, did not want to miss out on a thing.

My day begins at 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. when I get up to do my gratitude journal and prayer. grab my water and a banana.. My son is a night owl so he is still sleeping which then gives me the chance to crank myself into high gear and get as much Real Estate business out of the way before he wakes up. I check my email, return important calls, and do our short sale interviews with new sellers. I answer the phones while Nestor does his CMAs and calling the lenders. We answer our phones because we treat each agent that calls us to show one of our listings as an important sales call. Many times we have sold our listings this way. We also know all the veteran agents here in town and we are friends, so it gives me a chance to chit chat and catch up. I also do all the negotiations on offers being faxed and emailed in and keep in touch with our Virtual Assistant with weekly and daily action steps she needs to be doing. Are there days when things don't work out as planned? Of course! Are there days when my schedule falls apart? Of course there are. And sometimes when we are negotiating intensely for a seller, that takes priority over all else in the moment.

My son wakes up about 11 or 12 .We make organic fruit smoothies for his breakfast and soft boiled organic eggs. Then we do home school. It takes about 2 hours at his age to get all our school work done without projects. In these 2 hours we get as much done or more than the public school gets finished in 6 hours. Depending on the day of the week, he will go to Piano classes, Swimming classes, Outdoor science classes, gymnastics, chess, and PE classes. He is turning 6 years old this week. One day a week he goes to an all day homeschool athletic association PE class where they learn all kinds of sports during the year. He just loves this day and it also gives me a day off.

I coach at 3 p.m. in the afternoon Monday through Fridays as well as a few times in the evenings. I work out at Curves 3 times a week, trying to get in another day for that. After Curves we make and eat dinner.

Then I start blogging and commenting on Active Rain. I do research, read, return emails and social networking. We do some more school activities such as reading aloud to our son, art projects and play games like Uno or Chess.

Usually I go to sleep between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

katerina gasset coach realtor

On Sundays we go to church and I do not do any real estate on Sundays. This is my day of rest. I will blog and comment about other things not real estate related. I spend about an hour each Sunday on our accounting and paying bills on line. Preparing the next week's schedules, appointments and getting homeschool lessons organized is another Sunday event.

Saturdays are for going to the beach, playing, doing project around the house, writing our short sale book and going swimming in our pool. This is also a day that I reserve for customizing expired listing packages for the agents that use our program. It is also my Squidoo day, Triibes day and researching the Internet day. Nestor is very romantic and spontaneous so sometimes our days may take a totally different turn. Flexibility is the key in schedules. Nothing I do except is cut in concrete except for Church, gratitudes and prayer.

So there you have it; this is how I get it all done. I could never do it all alone without Nestor's help and support.

I just thought I was a baby because I am going on 4-5 hour sleep nights for two weeks now.  I am one of those people who need a solid 8!

I wish I had a Nestor :)  It's funny my husband's goal is for me to make enough money so he can quit his job and help me.  I had him mow a lawn last week (emergent situation where landscaper quit and didn't tell anyone, vacant home, grass a foot high!)  He came home and said "you know, when I said I would help you I just want you to know it would be with things like paperwork and phone, not mowing lawns!"

Katerina, sounds like you have a plan and are very effective at working it.  Staying flexible and going with the flow saves your sanity, and it sounds like you know all plans are subject to change.

Hi Katerina...I think your secret to success is being organized(time management) with your daily, weekly and monthly activities which in turn will work with your goals.

I'm curious, where do you get the material and information on what to Teach your son...I know you home schooled all your Children, but did you takes courses on Home Schooling...in any event well Done Katerina.

I often say I'm a morning person and night owl, as I'll stay up if I 'm interested in something on TV or online, and up in the morning when the Sun wakes me..I agree I get up when my brain wakes up....I rarely sleep in, I'm like you I do not want to miss anything, life just goes by too fast to be sleeping in.

I wish I could be as organized as you...I know having been a Business owner and Real Estate Sales Manager..the Lady Realtors get more done in a day Guys...because they are multi taskers with work, family and their own lives and have no time for chit chat at the office.

Thanks for sharing your life with us all.

Katerina - I enjoyed this post immensely, and I liked reading about your outlook on life and your priorities.  I also feel better for letting my kids sleep late since they are homeschooled.  They stay up later (so that we can hang out with them), and they sleep later, too.  I was visiting my in-laws this past week, and my wife's stepmom is a teacher.  She had to get up at 4:30am to get to work on time!  That is not the kind of life that I want.

You do all of that & still look so GOOD!!!  You are an awesome woman, my muse!

Have a wonderful day,

Katerina this is a good reminder to all us to get our rest. Also you left out the importance of exercise. This will help you get a better nights sleep.I can relate to the home schooling. We home schooled all four of our children at one point. One is a sophomore at college the other three still in high school also attend college in their spare time.

Katerina - You really have a full schedule!  It's good to hear that somebody else homeschools.  We have four children and homeschooled them all from kindergarten through the twelfth grade.  I only have one left, and he's a senior this year.  I think I'm going to miss it next year...  :)

Katerina, I wondered myself how you fit so much in.  I just can't get by with less then 6 hours of sleep a night and sometimes 7.  If you added up all the extra hours, you have a few more years of awake time!  I know there is so much I want to do and never enough time to do it all!  Have a wonderful weekend with your son.

Katerina - That's amazing. You sound so organized.  Of course, it's wonderful to have a helper like Nestor.  I wish I have your stamina.  Like Carol, I am an irregular.  I sleep little, sometimes too little - may be a few hours, like when I am hooked on AR.  Other times, I sleep on.

Katerina,

Sleep? What's that?...I try to get in 8 hrs if possible....even during the day if I'm not busy and can sit down ...I might take a cat nap once in a blue moon. I need to go to the gym minimum of 3-4 times w eek to keep myself sane. I also cut me large lawn in the heat. I spend the rest of the time with the family inside or maybe go out for a bit...can't do lots of travel right now as the dog is 17 and I'm afraid to leave him for more than 24 hrs. Thankfully we went to 3 parties last weekend but we pooped out early.

Katerina - I keep a very similar schedule but I just don't seem to be doing as much as you. I guess I do too much research than doing. I got exhausted just reading your post. Time for a nap!  Oh wait..I don't do those anymore. Happy Birthday to your little guy and kudos to you for a full happy schedule, super woman!

Katerina, I agree with you that sleep is highly over rated. I do like to relax though. It sounds like you are very well organized with your time. You are also a creature of habit. I also get a whole bunch done in a day when it comes to my work. And must of it gets done before noon!!!

Thanks for sharing a peek at your life.

Katerina:  I so wish we didn't have to sleep to keep going--we could get SO much more done, couldn't we?!  Time management is imperative as well and you really do have great control of your time and run your business and family life so smoothly.  Of course, spontaneity is a fact of life and you always deal so well with that aspect of life also!

How do you do all that on Saturday?  I try to keep my Saturdays work-free.  Today I wanted to go out on my boat, but Gustav is bringing in a lot of rain.  Maybe Sunday, no open house scheduled on a holiday weekend.

Loved reading your blog!!  I, too, used to homeschool.  LOVED it!  My son and daughter began public school 2 years ago, so here comes year 3.  You are RIGHT on about how much faster you can get the work done at home.  We used to enjoy jumping on the trampoline as everyone else was trudging to the bus stop.

I guess there are seasons in life.  A time to homeschool, a time for public school.  My husband and I are recently divorced and he wrote into the decree NO HOMESCHOOLING.  Well, I guess that is just as well since this is my first year in real estate and I am building up my business.  God takes care of my babies...even when I cannot be with them. :)  I am thankful!!

Looking forward to reading your blog more often!!

Take care!

Katerina:  I'm very organized, but it sounds like you have me beat hands down! I've got to get back to my normal schedule of up at 6am, gym, breakfast and at my desk by 9am. I miss that, and I know it was good for me all the way around. Gas prices and my distance from a gym have thrown a wrench in those plans, but going to try and put them back in shape!

Thanks for an extra punch to make that a priority! (As for that day off.....not ready for that....still to much to do to be where I want to be...then I can have that day) And yes, I am watching the "burn out meter" closely!

Why do folks obsess about sleep.  Good greif!  If you're sleepy, sleep.  If not, don't worry about it.  Our bodies will tell us how much and when we need to sleep.  I don't even own a clock.

I like the thing about the alarm clock. I also use it only when I need to catch a plane. Also go to bed at 3 AM and up at 9 AM (and sometimes even later).

You beat me not on how long you sleep, but how much you accomplish when you are awake. ANd I do not do any homeschooling...

Your schedule looks like mine used to.  Last year was my last year of homeschooling - they are all in college now (thank you Lord for your blessing), so I actually gained a few hours of work time, although I still spend some of that with my boys and their girlfriends. I agree that sleep is overated and am fortunate to thrive on 4 or 5 hours a night also.

Katerina -- what a schedule!  They say the most successful people are the busiest people.  While I love my sleep, I hate to think about the fact that most people spend 1/3 or more of their lives laying on their backs in bed.  I'll often set an alarm clock, but rarely need it since I'll wake up 1/2 hour or more before it ever goes off.

"I believe that sleep is underrated."

I think you meant to say overrated.

Everyone- We are back from our mini time away and I will be back to blogging full swing ahead this new week coming up. Our trip was extended not by our own wishes so we are still working on getting used to our new homeschool schedule and at the same time, we came home to 4 new listings we need to do short sales for and of course I had to take time to watch the conventions. Now it is back to normal schedules again. If I have not returned your emails it is only that I am still catching up with them. I will get to your questions. Please try to ask your questions in my group, Active Rain Question of The Week.

You and Nestor have it all, you works the nights and he works ths days, similar to my situation and schedule with my husband. He goes to bed after the news before midnight and it up at 6-7am.

I stay up doing my computer blogging and emails until 3 or 4am and get up at 9am. As I have gotten older I seem to require only 4-5 hours, I also do not want to miss out doing my living. I feel I have plenty of time to sleep when the Lord calls for me BTW I hope not for many many years, I still have too many lives to touch and help.
