What's Really Important In Life?

We go through our daily lives doing many things.  Some are important, some are very important, some are not so important, and then there are things we might call "brush fires," those little things that just take up so much of our time, yet at the end of the day leave us feeling as if nothing much has really been accomplished.

I asked myself...What's really important?  How many of you have ever asked yourself this question?  If this question is put before a group of people, you may generally find a similar response from those in the group...
  1. God first
  2. Family second
  3. Self third

When I look at my own answers, I find the word "SAVING" seems to be the main theme, and it is a mixture of personal and professional when looking at the whole picture.

Professionally, I am here on Active Rain blogging because I help people save their home from foreclosure.  I am in the business of SAVING homes.  But this is not my only business.  I also help people save money in regards to monthly expenses.  I represent a company who has set themselves up to become a giant in the communications industry, and their mission is to help consumers cut costs on their monthly bills.  For example:

My wife and I were paying almost $75 for our monthly phone bill, and that only included a few extras from the phone company.  I now pay $24.95/month, get unlimited local and long distance (and can call many countries around the world for free), and it comes with all the extras I didn't have before.  If I want to see who I am talking to, a video phone is available to add to my service with no extra monthly costs.  They also deal with most of the major cell phone companies, and you can get cell phones for free, or at reduced costs over what you get when you go straight to the big boys.  They also deal with the Satellite companies (Dish & Direct TV), Home Security, Internet Service, and business phone systems.  So, as you see, I am also in the business of SAVING people money.

Next up...I am in the business of Saving Lives On America's Highways!
This is a most interesting venture, as it hits a very passionate spot deep within me.  I started a website dealing with this issue almost 2 years ago.  I spent months setting up the site, a discussion board, and a blog (although I didn't know the real value of blogging back then).  I quickly realized after setting all of these things up that I really didn't have the slightest idea of how to get traffic to the site, and failed at every thing I did in my attempts to do so.  I sort of gave up on the project for awhile.  Oh, I always kept trying to get it moving, but was very discouraged.  Then I found Active Rain, learned the value of blogging, and social networking.  Now, I have a renewed spirit and am putting myself back into this project.  Consider visiting the site and joining the effort.  The name of the site???  Oh, yeah... MrRoadRage.com

When it comes to Saving Lives...  I have started a GROUP here on ActiveRain that deals with health issues.  I've learned that disease is Preventable & Reversable, but you are not going to hear these things from your Doctor.  For the medical industry to teach you these things would be to put them out of business.  People are dying who should not be.  I've lost 3 family members in less than 15 months, and I've decided that I need to share what I have learned so that lives can be saved.  Did you know that HEALTH is a choice you make.  Everyone knows this, but they don't have the knowledge to make correct choices.  I hope to help change this.  If the link to GROUPS above doesn't work, the address is: http://activerain.com/groups/betterhealth  Please join us, even if you are only mildly curious.

I SAVED the most important for last
...as a Christian, SAVING lives for Eternity is the most important thing we can do.  The Love of God is an Awesome thing, yet somehow God is protrayed as a montrous creature ready to pass judgment on those who dare to do the least little thing wrong.  Oh how sad that such a mistaken portrait is portrayed.  So many who claim to be Christians only talk the talk, but their lives show that they don't walk the walk, and they leave such a wrong impression on people as to what Christianity is all about.  People are watching bad examples and taking that as the true measure of what a Christian is.  Ghandi once said that he may have become a Christian...if it weren't for all the Christians.  I was so sad when I read that quote, for there is much truth to that statement as it plays out in our lives almost every day.

I am not one of those Christians who will treat you like a pop-top trash can...stepping on your toes and when  you mouth opens, attempt to shove Christ down your throat.  I take a different approach all together.  I used to be one of those people with lots of questions, questions that no one seemed able to answer.  Then one day, I saw a nationwide satellite presention on the Bible, and this presentation (along with several others in the series) really covered the Bible and answered my questions.  Now I seek out those who feel the way I used to feel, and I try to help them get their questions asnwered too.  If you are one of those people, please feel free to contact me...I am more than happy to help.

So, as you see, "Saving" is the key theme to the things that are important to me.  Whether it is Saving Lives For Eternity (God first), Saving Lives through healthier living, Saving Lives on our highways, saving homes, or saving money (Family/families second)...the theme is helping people, helping to save something very important.

You may ask "where does self (3rd on the list) fall into this equation?"  I find that by helping others in the first two areas, the third area somehow is taken care of.  I also find that those who focus on Self first, tend to be a somewhat unhappy group of people.  Take the time to look closely at friends as well as strangers, and see how this plays out in their lives.  Then take a look in the mirror and ask yourself where you stand in the grand scheme of things.  Are you "self-oriented" or do you put others first?  It is my personal belief that this may be the single largest determining factor as to whether your cup is half-empty of half-full.

Care to talk about it?  Post a reply, send me a message, or feel free to call me.  If I am awake, and available to answer my phone, I answer it.  I hope to hear from YOU!

Gregory ~ I like all of the things you want to "save."  This is one of the better blogs I have read in a while!

I mean who doesn't want better health? who doesn't want to save lives? who doesn't want to help keep someone from losing their home?  who doesn't want to stop road rage? who doesn't want to go to heaven? Who doesn't want to save money?  You've covered it all!

Hi Vickie!  Thanks for the wonderful comment!

I just have to touch on your first question..."who doesn't want better health?"  You would be surprised.  People WANT better health, but only if they don't have to change anything to get it.  Only after they reach the point of "regret" or the "Point of NO Return" do they feel it is necessary to do anything.  We've lost 3 family members in less than 15 months, and I personally feel that all of them could/should be alive today.  AS I tried to talk to some of my family members in regards to what they can do now when I was home for the funeral last week...well, let's just say I met with a lot of resistance.  Sometimes the eyes roll.  People just prefer the status quo.

A client of mine had a heart attack, and I talked with him about ways to reverse his condition.  He doesn't want another heart attack, but he doesn't want to change anything or do anything other than take the magic pills from his doctor.  He just hopes it will be ok.  You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink, and this is way many people are today.  They want good health, but only if it means they don't have to do anything to get it.

So, I let people know that I know that disease can be prevented, and reversed...those who want to know more will say so.  I can't worry about those who won't worry about themselves.  Yet, once they lose their health, suddenly they want somebody to do something magical, or give them the magic pill.  Regret is a terrible thing when it finds itself right in your face.  I hope to catch a few people who are at least open minded enough to take a serious look into their health...and hopefully they will join the group.

Bravo. I too am actively involved in assisting clients in saving their homes. Where can they go? The home owners become renters, not the answer in my eyes.

Nancy - You are so right...and every homeowner who becomes a renter...ouch, that really hurts the Real Estate Industry, and really hurts the economy.  I've talked to a lot of people in this industry, and have read a lot of blogs here in the Rain, and everyone wants something good to happen, but it really doesn't look anyone wants to stand up and help these homeowners save their homes.  Everyone wants to go the Short Sale route.  Wake up people, you just lost that homeowner for some time.  Exit strategies are only hurting the Industry.  To me, helping a homeowner exit the home BEFORE trying to save it is no different than the banks refusing to negotiate over a couple of thousand dollars and then losing $30,000.  All of it hurts the Industry.  WE have to work together and save these homes when possible, or we will all suffer as the economy goes to pot.

I appreciate your passion for helping people.  I too feel that I am helping people in their dream of buying a home.  I have been intrusted to give a fair, honest, and unbiased opinion of its market value so they don't pay more for their home than what it is truely worth.  Sometimes this is more difficult than it seems in todays climate.  Thanks for your inspiration.

Thanks Gary & The anonymous poster above him! - Appreciate the comments!  One thing I have really loved about being here on Active Rain is that there are a lot of people here who care.  I don't see a lot of people in this world who have caring attitudes these days.  So many seem so absorbed in self...so I just love hanging with all the "like minded people" who play here in the rain!!!
