I've been using AR for just over a year now. I really hadn't used it much until the past 4-6 months when out of the blue, I received an email message from someone asking me to do a Listing Presentation for them. I really was somewhat confused because I'm not sure how she found me on AR or why she ultimately chose me. At that time I wasn't even on the first page under Albuquerque (the city I live in) and I really active rain logohadn't written too many blogs. Hey, I wasn't complaining though, I joined this in hopes of expanding my Real Estate business but never truly expected to receive any activity through it.

Recently I've been actively writing and responding to Blogs. I really enjoy doing this, and it's horribly ADDICTING! (Yes AR, you are both awesome and terrible. I love logging in and hate how much time I spend here...LOL!) But I'm really curious to know how others use AR and how they gear it towards aquiring new business.

How do you use Active Rain and what advise do you give to help make AR work better for me? Thanks in advance!

I have been trying to write content to people in my area. I want people to know that I am here in my town writing and being active. I am also trying to write to the AR community so I can be of service to people here.

Good to see its working for you!

Jose:  Best thing to do is just keep blogging!  The more content you put out there, the wider and longer the tail is for others to find you.  Just keep up a daily regimen!  It pays dividends over time!

I'm still trying to figure out how I use Active|Rain. I continuously make comments and try to contribute in evry way possible. I find that by blogging listings- I am easily found via the Internet. I love this place!

I am like you, I created a profile about a year ago but just with in the last 4-6 months have become active in using it. However from my efforts of posting blogs and commenting on other's posts - I have met some wonderful people and have had contacts that I never would have if my profile would have stayed dormant. Also through a little bit of effort I am now in the top 10 for my home town (Gilbert, AZ) and that was a wonderful feeling when I saw that. I wish you the best of luck and I am sure you will do great.

It took me awhile to give in to social networking I only wish I started earlier.  I get at least five phone calls a week from my activerain blog.  Good Luck!

There are a lot of good points made in the comments. I have been on here for a very short period of time, but we are finding ourselves on page 1 and 2 due to our activerain/localism blogs. what has definitley helped us is to try and target the smaller markets around our bread and butter area, that the "big dogs" don't really want. though we still work the larger market, we found it very helpful to focus our attention where there are not 10K+ agents all going vying for that #1 spot.
