Recently my husband Mark and I had the opportunity to enjoy two wine tasting events hosted by Miramonte Winery.  Talk about fun!  If you love wine and good food and who doesn't...then run don't walk to sign up for another one of these great local wine tasting events.

The next event is on September 17, 2008 at Miramonte.  We will be blindly tasting Chardonnays with a special cheese tasting by Temecula Cheese Company.

As a home stager I had to get a Before & After shot while at the Cabernet Sauvingon Tasting!

Here are some more pictures from the 2nd Tasting held at Allies Tapas au Vin  a newer restuarant located in TemeculaFood at Allies in TemeculaThe food was fabulous and complimented many of the wines well.

Don't ask me what we ate.....but it was all soooooo yummy!

As we tasted our cabernet sauvignon flights and devoured this fab food Cane the owner of Miramonte would personally ask us what we thought of each wine.  What did we think about the Nose? Was it Acidic?  A wine with a noticeable sense of acidity, Closed? A wine that is not very aromatic, etc.........

Cane the owner of Miramonte talking about the wines we tastedWhat did we taste? Was it Round? (A wine that has a good sense of body that is not overly tannic). Firm? A stronger sense of tannins....blah...blah..blah...you get the picture!

There are no right or wrong answers Cane pointed out.  He asked us to vote by a showing of hands which was our favorite in each of the 3 flights of wine.  We then created a fourth flight of the top 3 winners!  Believe it of not "2 Buck Chuck" a famous Trader Joe's vino almost came in first in one of the 3 flights!!!

So it just goes to show you that whether it is a $3.00 bottle or a $159.00 bottle (and there was one!) it all comes down to personal taste.  As the saying goes "To each his own"!

I look forward to seeing you at the next event!

Janice, I'm glad you had a wonderful time, I absolutely LOVE the wineries out here when I do get a chance to go!  They really are a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing the pictures.

Chris - It was a blast!  We signed up for the first and didn't expect to wind up going to all THREE!  I can't wait for the next one.  My husband loves white wines more then me and I love cheese and he hates it! More wine for him and cheese for me!  Thanks for stopping by and if you are ever in the Temecula Valley I would love to show the great local spots.

Carole - I have heard many great things about the LI wines.  They have even been in some of my food & wine magazines.  I left LI when I was in my early 20's.  I wasn't much of a wine lover then.  If I ever get back I will be sure to visit them!

Hi NY Sista!

Well, first of all, I had no idea that you were such a knowledgeable connoisseur of fine wines!  I was very impressed with your 'terminology'!

As Carole pointed out above, LI has been producing some really fine wines lately...on a recent trip through 'wine country' on the east end, I tried a new (at least new to me!) wine called Cabernet Franc and decided that it is one of my most favorite blends (and I'm a lover of red wines).

It looks like you had a lot of fun - and the food sounded delish!

Sista Girlfriend Val - Ha!  I fooled you.  I learned those new terms after the last tasting!  Although I have loved wine for 20 years.....I still have lots to learn!

I am looking forward to making a trip to the LI wineries.  I too love cab francs!  Blends are the best.  I call them the "leftovers'" from great wines.  Have you ever tried a Meritage?  Usually a blend of 3 or more wines.  I have a few local favs.  :)

Oh you're a 'sly' one!

I almost bought a Meritage tonight but tried something called  (wait - I have to run and get the bottle!) Pythagoras which is a blend of Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec...it's pretty interesting!  I like it...I'll try the Meritage next and let you know what I think.

BTW, are you coming back to the Island for a visit any time soon?  We definitely have to get together if and when you come 'home'!

Have a great weekend!

Val - I haven't heard of that blend.  Sounds like a prehistoric dinosaur!  Ha ha.  I love blends.

I may be coming back this winter.  I will give you advance notice.  I would love to get together!

It really DOES sound like something prehistoric, right?!

I'll tell ya what, girlfriend, the next time you come to the "Island", we'll meet up and I'll take you out to some of the vineyards on the east end.  We'll do a 'tasting'!  I look forward to it!

Janice, Loved this post.  It really brought back some great memories.   I did that tour a few years ago while visiting family.  We had a great time and brought home lots of great wine!  It also gets shipped to our door on a regular basis if I don't remember to cancel the Clubs.  I forgot one year and had around 40 boxes of wine delivered from the different wineries we visited between Temecula, Sonoma & Walla Walla,.....  My cellar holds 500 bottles and is already overflowing!

Also, thanks for commenting on my Post!

Jessica - You are too funny!  Tough decision....Disneyland or Wine Country??  Well they both are the Happiest Place On Earth!  :)

Let me know when you are in the area.  It would be my pleasure to show you what the locals love here!

Pam - Thanks for stopping by.  Glad you loved the area.  Your 500 bottle wine cellar is overflowing!!!  Nice.  :)

Great news Jessica!  Disney's California Adventure does have a wine country, with tastings, cheese plates, and a decent Italian restaurant.  That's usually where we have dinner to watch the parade at night when we go.  Super expensive, as everything in Disneyland, but a nice break for the parents!
