6 Comments on Dressing down!?!
A suggestion, when I show homes to all my Hispanic clients, I only wear jeans and a regular shirt because dressing up will scare them away, plus it makes them comfortable that I am their equal.
When dealing with my non-hispanic clients, I dress up (slacks and dress shirt) but after the first visit, i will dress down to jeans and shirt.
So, what I am trying to say is, just feel comfortable in what you were. It will show and you will get respected based on your job and not what you are wearing.
Wear what you are comfortable with. In NM you must have heat like we do here in AZ. Dressing in suits here if you are out showing homes would be crazy.
Sometimes I think a person should dress down because you can not approach every type of client in a power suit. Some people find it intimidating and first impressions are very important. I live in AZ as well (like the Benjamin Team) and it ileaves a worse impression to show up somewhere completely sweaty...Great Blog & Good Luck
Hi Jose:
Living in Florida, I would be miserable if I didn't wear Clam Diggers and Sandals almost all year, with a 3/4 length sleeve shirt or white pants, 3/4 length sleeve blouse and, most importantly, sandals. It seems if my feet are cool and comfortable then the rest of me is fine. Hats are in here and the more outrageous the better. Sometimes, when I wear the Clam Diggers, sandals and shirt, I'm still over dressed for my customers. It's all fun here and you just have to be yourself and comfortable.
Best Wishes &

I have been here in LA for about 11-12 years, it all blends together...anyway when I came here from Boston I used to wear a Shirt Tie & Suit. Now it is always Business casual, dress slacks, T-shirt when it is cold then a Sports Jacket. No one had a problem with it. It is the knowledge I provide is what buyers want....With that said today I was going around with a 60+ years College Professor . We went to see this home the Listing agent showed up in White Shirt Red Tie and Black Dress pants. My client said "...now this guy looks like a Realtor...unlike you.." (go figure) inpite of that we are writing an offer tommorow.:)))
I usually dress up for an appointment with a client. I am more comfortable wearing professional attire when I am talking to someone about their finances. When the weather is hot and humid I wear short sleeves with dress pants. It is good to see that your client's father respected your footwear choice. I do think it is all about feeling comfortable and confident in who you are.
