There are many things in life that puzzle me, but one of the most perplexing are real estate agents who never attend another class to improve their skills. As a life-long student of learning, I've garnered more initials after my name than letters in it. My intent wasn't to get top-heavy in designations, but to improve my skills and challenge myself. After the first decade and a half in real estate I found I was too focused on the business to be able to see beyond it.

That was a mistake, a big mistake.

In 1997 I went looking to build a website to generate real estateBig Dog business. Today making that statement doesn't sound so far-fetched, but trust me, in 1997 when I said it people stare back at me as though I had a third eye in the middle of my brow.

My quest to accomplish this goal pushed me beyond the borders of the real estate industry. Lucky for me at the time there was no one who knew much of anything about what I was trying to do so off into the real world I wondered.

As luck would have it, stepping out was the first step in moving up for me.

Since that time, whenever I've endeavored to learn something new, I've made an effort to learn it outside my industry.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing the real estate industry, I just found there's more to learning then listening to the people who teach and not actually "do." I really like learning from those who are actually in the trenches, tweeking and refining things to make them spin smooth. There's an immense credibility attached to the reality of being success yourself before you teach others how to be.

That's my short shory on WHY I AM GOING TO REBLOGWORLD, Blogworld & New Media Expo. If you haven't heard of it or haven't decided to attend it's not too late to consider.

One month from today it starts, September 19, 20 & 21, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

You will be delighted to know the speakers are the movers and shakers of the real estate industry who are actually EXPERIENCING the success not just talking it up! Read the list below and tell me who so far has taught you the most...

* Dan Green
* Daniel Rothamel
* David Smith & Rich Jacobson
* Dustin Luther
* Jason Berman - Event Organizer
* Jeff Turner
* Jim Duncan
* Kelley Koehler
* Mariana Wagner
* Matt Fagioli
* Meet our moderators. Jan O'Brien, Kevin Boer, & Pat Kitano
* Michael Price
* Mike Mueller
* Morgan Brown
* Teresa Boardman
* Todd Carpenter - Event Organizer

Each and everyone of these speakers has the depth of experience and is willing to share with those who are willing to listen. A day with any 3 of them would be worth the price of admission alone!

Day 2 and 3 are both filled with Internationally acclaimed personalities from outside the industry plus an exhibition hall filled with more blog fodder.

Hope to see you at REBlogWorld!

I try to keep up but i rarely go to classes or have any initials after my name. I would love to attedn some of these events just never know which would be the most useful. I probablly should call you after the impending Hurricane to get your advice. Thanks for the knowledge that you pass on. I could have never learned what I know if agents had not shared things with me on the internet.

Hi Krystal, I came back to the Rain a few months ago after a break from "life".  You were so helpful and I didn't see too much of you when I came back, must have missed your blogs when posted.  Unfortunately I can't attend, took too much time away to go, but will definitely see what other resources I can learn from.

Thanks for all you do to help us,  I still refer to some of the bookmarks from the first time.

I, too, have heard the expression "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach". What I, personally, believe is that people only care to hear what you have to say if they want to be where you are, or have what you have!

And, lady, you have this blogging thing down cold. So PLEASE keep sharing, cause we all want what YOU have: your knowledge! (And I won't be able to attend either. But please tell my good friends, Mariana and Derek hello for me!

This sounds great -- unfortunately, it is not the right timing for me as I have a conflict on those dates.  Keep us posted with the highlights.

I agree.  I am much more ready to learn from somebody who is a go getter and is out doing it and proving the system.

KK,

Your post makes perfect sense to me, (does that make me weird? lol), a handfull of initials for me too. I love learning from em-all, newbies and old-timers when I can. I'm signed up for the event myself, so hope to meet you there.

Really looking forward to the addition of the real estate track to this year's BlogWorld. Last year opened my eyes to a lot of possibilities, and I'm hoping to do a lot of live blogging as well as some great RE networking. See you next month!!

Kristal, thank you so much for postin this. You are so right about, " A day with any 3 of them would be worth the price of admission alone!". I've been lucky enough to have met all but one person on that list in real life. They are all the real deal.

And as much as I wish to go on about how great REBlogWorld will be, you just hit it on the nail with that quote. Sure, their will be a bunch of great content at the show. But that's not the best part. I still count the evening you took Jeff Turner and I to dinner as the most eye-opening, entertaining, and fufilling moment in all of my dealings with "RE.net".  It was the sort of conversation that can't take place online. That can't be expressed in a You Tube video, or podcast. Those are the type of learning experiences I look forward to at REBlogWorld. Not just with those speakers, but with everyone who will attend.

Oh, and because I am shameless.

Hi Kristal,

I'm with you on the idea of learning from contemporaries who have actually 'been there, done that' and succeeded!  This event sounds amazing!  Even though I am not a realtor, I recognize a few of those 'powerhouse' names from here on AR!

Have a great time!

There is so much to learn and everyone can always learn something new. I won't be able to make it but will be looking forward to hearing about it.  That's wonderful Mariana is going to be one of the speakers!

Todd and Kristal... I love networking online, but nothing takes the place of dinners like the three of us shared. Nothing. Those who will get the benefit of the tweets and updates to blogs and other social media will certainly get a flavor of the event and learn vicariously. But the real learning, growing, sharing takes place live.

It's the first time I've had the pleasure of reading your blog.  Great info!  Additionally, I'm impressed with your page layout, colors and use of the puzzle pieces.  Like you, I love to keep learning.  After 23 years as a Realtor, there is more to learn than ever.

Kristal, can't wait to finally meet you!  I've signed up for REBlogWorld awhile back.

I am also very interested in the non-real estate portion of the conference.  Hoping to pick up a lot of great ideas.

And, by the way, we absolutely need to have an AR Party!  RIGHT???

Kristal - have a wonderful time there. I'm signed up for RE Tech South in March in Atlanta, so I'm hoping to corner 3 experts as well.

One of the things I really like about the annual Leaders in Luxury conference put on by the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing is that they bring in speakers from outside the real estate industry. It's been a big WOW every year I've attended.

Another good event, as you know, is when like-minded productive real estate agents get together and share ideas, like CyberProfessionals.  Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando.

Stay a couple more days in Florida so that you can come over to St Pete and stay with us!
