I came across this article and wanted to share the info. Included are Home Improvement scams and Mortgage Bait & Switch scams...could be important to some of our clients.

Especially close to mind for me was the one regarding Fake Checks. Our office advertised a listing in Yucaipa for a horse property on CraigsList. We received a response from someone in Nigeria. As his emails regarding the property became more strongly worded when I kept asking for a commitment that agreed with our regulations I finally asked that he wire (not send a check) $10,000 to open an escrow his emails ended!

You have to admire the Nigerian scammers - they seem to have their hands in everything now. This is the first I've heard of them trying to scam some real estate. Iphones and video game systems is just the start I guess! Good link to avoiding scams.

I received a solicitation last week from someone wanting me to help them transfer funds...blah, blah, blah.  As I was filing the email in the appropriate location, I noticed the letter was 'signed' by Peter Sham.  How brazen do you have to be to try to scam someone and use a last name of SHAM?

Erik, just how stupid do these people think we are!? Of course they do make a 'living' this way.

Its sad. I hate to say this but a lot of Nigerians do scams. Unfortunately they give a bad names to the honest hardworking folks who are not doing scams. Great post.

Lanre, I agree, it is sad when any group of people become associated in particular with perpetrating scams. Unfortunately one of the best things we can do is make the situation known.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for sharing---I saw a show about ID theft and apparently Nigeria is a "hotbed" for fraudulent activity.  I stay away from any emails that come from that place!

I was reading Erik's comment--and yes the do have a lot of gall!
