I am curious if there is another city out there with as many nicknames as Spokane has.  I recently attended a Gonzaga friend's wedding and a bunch of us sat around and tried to come up with all the names we have heard Spokane called.  Below are the results, prefaced by a short history lesson on the true meaning of Spokane!  Enjoy! :)

Spokane (pronounced Spo-Can) was named after the Native American Tribe Spokan which means "Children of the Sun".  The city naturally has its "marketing" nickname in "The Lilac City", but here are a few of the more "creative" names I have heard.

Hey, I was stationed in Spok-a-loo with the Air Force from 66-70 and that is all we ever called it. Cute post.

I live in Spokane....WOO.

I usually refer to this great city as Spokandy Land. I've also heard Spokansas,
