I Have a Birthday Boy & Girl Today!!

I have no two-legged children, so my cats are my kids.  And nearly five years ago I rescued my first two furry loves from the impending doom of Hurricane Isabel.  It was the Friday before Labor Day.  I was weed whacking the side yard of my townhouse.  I ran out of extension cord and stoped to untangle the mess and get more length on the cord.  Thank God. I was two inches from two adorable kittens....estimated to be about seven days old..making their birthday August 28th.

My first concern was what was crying in the bush?  My second concern was, are they okay?  My third concern was, what do I do now?  I had never had cats before.  But with the Hurricane slinking it's way up the coast, I couldn't leave them outside.

So my husband (James) and I became instant kitty parents.  It was probably much similar to what you go through when you have a newborn baby in the house.  Waking up to bottle feed them in the middle of the night.  Helping them pee (that's another story if you've never experienced that).

We found out we had one girl and one boy.  Their names, a week later, became Minx and Rudy.  Minx is the little one I am tickling in the first picture.  She looks so tiny!!!  Rudy is the one James is bottle feeding to the right.

Rudy and Minx have been utter blessings to both of us.  We couldn't love them more if they had our DNA.  So today I would like to throw a Happy Birthday out there to these special kitties.  And give you a couple more of their "baby" pictures out of our enormous collection.

Chris Ann, Happy Birthday to your babies! What a great story and so good of you to keep them when you found them. My little white dog means so much to me and he brings so much joy to our family.

Hope there's some catnip today for Rudy and Minx!

Richard:  They are truly special cats.  And because we found them so young, they really think they are human.

Susan:  It's funny how things work out, isn't it?  At the time, we were just getting over a cat we tried to adopt having to go back to it's original family.  He was sick everytime I left home because he was not used to a man in the house.

Chris Ann  I hope Karen doesn't read this post.  We had our cats put down several years ago after they were in our family for many years.  I know she would run over to the county pound and bring home "new" family.  They are fantastic pictures,  Art Kruschka

Art:  It's a very hard thing to outlive pets.  But if you ever decide to open up your hearts to one again, let me know.  I support a local charity that has many to adopt...cats and kittens.

Happy Birthday!! I just met with a client yestday who loves thier cats soooooooo much. Actually one of them passed away and they had her perserved. I saw it and it really did look real, just like she was asleep on a pillow that was sitting up on the dresser in thier bedroom.

Judi:  That's a little creepy sounding, but I'm sure it was done tastefully.  I would be worried what would happen to the cat when I was no longer around.  To think of it ending up in someone's trash is very sad.

Chris Ann- Too sweet. How fortunate they are to have you find them and call them your babies. May you and hubby enjoy many happy years together with them. By the way, did Mommy cat ever come about? Curious as to what happened to her that she would abandon her babies.

Chris Ann:  Yeah, I'm thinking that sounds more than a little creepy to me, too.  But, then again, if it makes her happy.  But... yikes.

Back to your babies.  They are so adorable.  Just like their cat-mother I am sure.  Thanks for the great pictures, and for bringing a smile to my tired eyes so late this morning.  I could not sleep, bot up... and found your cute kitties waiting for me.  Thanks again for sharing... Take care...

Karen Anne:  Glad you stopped by.  It's funny how just looking at cute animal photos brings your blood pressure down, isn't it?

Martha:  She hadn't abandoned them, but had been afraid of the weed whacker noise and ran.    She came back once we had taken them inside, then it was decision time.  If we give them back, she's definitely taking them elsewhere, we'd never find them again, and they may not make it through the storm.  We fed her and for as long as she'd stay, but it wasn't long.  She ended up getting hit by a car about a year later.

They are so cute.  It's too bad they don't stay that cute and little very long! Our last cat came to us just a few days old and we had to nurse him just like you guys did in your picture.

Michael:  I wasn't a cat lover at all before these two.  I was a dog person.  Now look at me!  :)
