Refrigerator Magnets are Toxic

Refrigerator magnets are a sign of just how serious you are about selling your home. If you are going to sell your home, you have to accept that your daily routine is going to be interrupted for the foreseeable future. It cannot be avoided. You will have to keep the house clean all the time and may have to leave your home when buyers come through. If you cannot even make the effort to clean off your refrigerator, do not whine to your agent about the lack of offers.

If your home is not getting very many showing, it could be because your showing instructions may not be buyer friendly.

I thought my collection was bad. Guess there's a competitor out there.

Nice pic Tigard, I always go with my photographer and we always have to clean off the fridge before we take a picture of the kitchen.

So true. It kills me that some sellers are out to make a few hundred thousand dollars and complain that they have to clean the house or put some things away.

It is like anything you get paid for, you have to do SOME work.

Don't those seller's get mad when you tell them they have to "clean up"? Yikes...That's horrible....

It is a great example pic...perfect idea to include in a listing presentation on how to ensure your home is ready for showings!

I just had a case of fridge magnets.

I did not say a word but stared at them for the longest time. Finally the seller said

Anne, do you think I should take them off?

Yes, Mr. Seller, that is a brilliant idea

I think it is so funny when when I see a magnet collection in a listing or V-tour. It is even more humorous when you spot a magnet business card for an agent who doesn't have the listing!

They are the first thing that we ask our sellers to remove before we take pictures.

Oh yes, getting the refrigerator magnets off is so important. And what about the collection of vitamins on the top of the refrigerator. Those need a different place also.

I really like the medicine bottles on top too? Always makes people think about how healthy it would be to live there.

Children's sentimental colorings on the bedroom wall also need to go, not to mention all the height measurements on the kitchen door. A little can of $15 paint can result in offers that will provide quite a hefty return on that investment in the $15 can of paint.

When were refrigerator magnets invented? I don't think we had them in the 70s or did we? 70s? 80s?

This picture tells us the problems is greater than the magnets. There are many more trees in that forest. Funny pic and true comment. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Paradise.

A picture is worth a thousand words...trite, but so true in this case lol. If you're selling your house for a few k, the least you can do is take the magnets off the fridge. They are definitely too personal; I know if I was looking at a house, something so personal would make me rather uncomfortable, and that's not a good feeling for a prospective buyer to have.

My refrigerator magnets go on the side where only the person using the stove can see them. So tacky :)

Renee I think your side view is a lot less tacky than the "full frontal" view that Wayne illustrates here.

Great post! You might suggest cleaning the dust off the top. I'm tall and I can see it. Oh, one last thing while they are at it...

I agree with you! It's almost as bad as wallpaper. I always hate to tell homeowners to clean them off before I take pictures.

I saw an MLS picture in which the kitchen was absolutely bare, except for the refrigerator, which was covered with magnets. Bizarre!

Wayne - OMG! That is ridiculous (including all the medicine bottles on top). I like Anne's (#6) idea. Subtle, yet very direct. LOL.
