The other day, I needed to get out and look at a home for a potential seller. It was a gorgeous day, as we often have here in Costa Mesa, and I decided to get on my bike and take my camera. Why should I be cooped up in a car, wasting gas, when I could spend such a glorious day combining exercise and work?
Costa Mesa has so many bike paths and trails. That day, I took the bike path up Victoria to Harbor, a great ride on a wide, appealing sidewalk.
Though, I have to admit, the way back was my favorite. I jumped on the Santa Ana River Trail at the end of Sunflower and took the trail all the way down to the beach before coming home. The path wound around through a beautiful canopy of trees before actually joining the Santa Ana River trail.
Heading for the beach, I crossed the bridge that has a few loose slats. A little exciting for a person who is a little unsure of heights.
If you have never been on the Santa Ana River Trail, get out on one of our gorgeous days (we do live in Costa Mesa for a reason, don't we?) and treat yourself to some exercise and some time outdoors.
Take the time to enjoy the beautiful flowers and the wildlife along the trail.
There are many different kinds of water fowl that call the Santa Ana River home and you'll get to enjoy this while feeling the ocean breeze blowing through your hair.
On this day, I spent a lot of time observing the wildlife around me. I love watching the birds searching for food in the River and then taking flight only to alight again a short distance away.
We pay a premium for living in Costa Mesa, and it is great to take advantage of the things that this City offers.
At the end of the Santa River Trail, I found myself at the river jetty able to stick my feet in the Pacific Ocean and enjoy some refreshing cool water after my exercise.
Towards the end of the River Trail is Fairview Park. Aside from being a great place to just bike, this park offers many incredible amenities. It has room up top for kids to run and fly kites, kick soccer balls, and generally have a great time. In the summer Fairview Park hosts Costa Mesa's Free Concerts. In addition, there is an area to fly remote controlled airplanes. There are also hills for mountain biking and jumping. There is a lot of space in this 208 acre park for everything from walking your dog, to flying your RC plane, to riding model trains, to just getting out and expending some energy and enjoying a beautiful day. In addition, the park was once home to The Indians of Lukup.
So, why not get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we enjoy here in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach and get out on the bike trails?
