In life, sometimes we reach a seemingly insurmountable obstacle that is blocking our path towards what we want.
Sometimes there are so many obstacles that we don't Rock Formation-Belleville Ontario Waterfront Trailknow which one to tackle first.

Oftentimes, when feeling overwhelmed with the obstacles that surround us in every direction, we reach an impasse within ourselves. We call this 'between a rock and a hard place'.

During these times in our lives, we are often afraid to make a move, for fear of making the wrong one. There is one certainty though, if we don't make a move, life will definitely make a move for us.
Life is not a chess game, and the only stalemate we ever reach in life, is at the moment when we pass from our earthly existence.

It is during these seeming impasses that come our way in life, when we are forced to make a move, that what we are made of is tested.
At these places on the path, where it seems impossible to make a move, we have no choice but to make a move. So how do we know which one to make?
Where does our guidance come from when we've explored all of the possibilities and none of them seem to fit?
What do we do?

We wait.
We give it a tiny bit of time.
Oftentimes a door will open suddenly in a place we never expected it to, right when we are at the very end of our rope and feeling that this fugue state will go on forever.
Sometimes, the universe will show us a new path, a new route that we just weren't able to see before and sometimes this new Ring-billed Gull in the Moira River-Belleville Ontariopath is so filled with light and ease of traveling, that we are overcome with amazement at how the universe works.

It is during these times of being in limbo that our faith is tested the most.
Our faith in ourselves, our faith in a loving universe, our faith that all things work out towards the good in the end. How do we reach this place of discovery sooner, rather than later?

We renew our communication with a loving universe.
We open up those communication channels we have with the intelligent life force that surrounds us and is within us. We speak to that intelligent life force, whoever or whatever we deem that life force to be.

We go to places that are uncomplicated and listen for answers.
Sometimes they are beaches where waves quietly lap the shores and gulls cry out in the damp afternoon air. Sometimes they are shady paths through ancient cedar woods where the steady drilling of a woodpecker reminds us that there is a consistency and pattern to life, and that we are not left out of it.
Sometimes they are quiet garden benches in parks where bees and butterflies go about their work of gathering the offerings of flowers.
If we search within ourselves, we always know where the right place is for us.

Peaceful Boardwalk at Hanlan Beach-Toronto OntarioWe take repose from the thinking and the analyzing and the questioning that the impasse has thrust upon us. We put aside the various facts and accept that no matter how hard we labour with the questions, we won't yet come up with the answers, for we haven't yet been given all of the pieces of the puzzle.

We trust ourselves and learn to be ok with settling gently into the impasse, but only for the time being.
We trust that this is exactly where we need to be, at this moment in time, and that soon more of the picture will be revealed to us, and we will be lifted gently up and a lamp will appear, showing us the way once more.

Jo, I am so in agreement with all your points. Repose and solitude better allow us to hear our inner voice. We ARE exactly where we are supposed to be at a moment in time. I call the moving forward connecting the dots into an uncertain future. Nothing is guaranteed. You move in the direction you want to go once you figure that out and doors start to open. Very well written and illustrated piece. Kudos to you.

Ahh, yes, those limbo moments are the times that try our souls.  Patience is key, and finding a beautiful place to ponder makes the waiting more tolerable.  I've made some of my most productive decisions while walking along a beach.

You should reblog this one every so often!

Jo,

Good points! When reaching an impasse, there are other choices than left or right, up or down...there's 'backing up', amongst others...when you back up from a mosaic, sometimes you get a clearer picture of the whole work...Thanks,   Fran

Hi Jo Anne,

Wow, that's quite thought process you've been through lately and it's very well said.  For me personally, it's about faith. Your photos are absolutely lovely!

I read and re- read this saying just yesterday and underlined it and folded the corner of the page so I could come back to it because i found it so profound and I'd like to share it today with you Jo -especially after reading what you wrote in this post.

"Faith MUST be tested, because it can be turned into a PERSONAL Possession ONLY through conflict."

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, 1935.

Awesome insight!

Jo, What a very true post.  For me that place is Central Park where I can step out of my issues and just enjoy life---and the answers always come after a day there!  I don't like feeling stagnant or becoming stuck and not moving in one direction or another can cause both...thanks always for your wonderful insights.

hi Gary,

I've asked you this before, but here it goes again. How'd you ever get to be so wise and know so much about life? I would love to hear your life story sometime.

You put it so perfectly when you said " I call the moving forward connecting the dots into an uncertain future. Nothing is guaranteed. You move in the direction you want to go once you figure that out and doors start to open."

Norma,

Beaches are one of my favourite places to go to reach decisions too. Somehow insight seems to make it's appearance more often there than in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This is not a re-blog...however, anyone is welcome to re-blog it if they want!

thanks for stopping by,

Jo-Anne, great post/insight ...

I settle for the beach, the lakeside, or High Park, but I do long for the ocean, when I need to sort things out.

I don't like settling, though (even for the lake, rather than the ocean), but I'm trying to live here, now, in the present (it's a gift, that's why it's called 'present') ... be more aware of everything and everyone, and try not to rush so much through life. We miss so much, and life is so short.

Thanks Jo, I needed this:)  I needed a reminder, actually of how I normally view life. Got a little off center there for a time.  Incidentally, on your last post the link to the subconcious article did not work for me. Hope you are having a great weekend.

Hi Lynda,

I'm with you. Faith means everything and sometimes we just have to trust that no matter what, we'll be ok once we take the chance and break through the impasse into the unknown.

Thanks for the compliment re. my photos!

It certainly is profound and very true. I'll hang onto it so that I can read it again during those times in life when I most need to be reminded.

hi Carole,

I've never been to Central Park, however I have gotten a sense of the energy there through reading your posts and viewing your photos. I can see why that would be a place where you are able to find answers...there's something very magical about it.
I'm thankful that you have a place to go when you are searching for answers to dilemmas you face.

thanks so much for your kindness and support,

Hi Jo-Anne -- thank you. I've evolved into a distressed property specialist, increased the number of my employees, entered my mineature weiner dog in a race at the State Fair, and have been watching and cheering as my husband, Dr. John, deepens his call to the ministry and preaching.  So there, the Reader's Digest version of catching up!  God bless you!

This and todays post seem to be coming from the same place...you are so insightful Jo!

This has been, and is a time of many obstacles for me. Stress and depression have taken their tole and for one of the few times in my life...I wasn't bouncing back. With some outside intevention I can now take it one day at a time...nothing has changed...but I'm no longer stressing about what I can't control or change. I can only do my best and hope. That in itself is freeing....and allowing that door to open in its time.

Thank you again for your beautiful words!

Hi Joan,

thanks for your kind and thoughtful words. I don't know that I'm that insightful, I think I've just been through a lot in life and learned quite a bit in the process. Most things I'm still trying to learn. (((-:

I'm very sorry that this has been such a trying year for you. I know it's hard to bounce back when so many things come on so many fronts...we can only deal with so much before we just lose our emotional energy to deal with more. At those times we just have to rest gently in the arms of the universe and know that these times will pass, and in the end it will all be ok. I'm glad you are no longer stressing over the things that are out of your control. Stress can wreak havoc with our bodies and brains and bring about further trouble if we don't keep it in check.

The doors always begin to open again sooner or later....it's the 'meantime' that is the hardest thing to go through.
I hope you know I'm here for you. Call me anytime! And in the meantime, I'll be thinking of you and sending you my best wishes that these difficult times pass quickly,

Hi Jo,

Great post! I sure wish I could have read this years ago when I didn't know where my life was going or when the light at the end of the tunnel was finally going to shine through. But it did! It took a long time and some very hard times but I am now in a much better space. I think  "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger" is so true. But at the time you are going through whatever hell you may be going through you really have to wonder!!

Trace,

I know you've been through some very hard times and it always makes me so happy to see how you overcame those times and that things turned around for you. It certainly is hard to have hope during trying times, however when we surmount them we seem to become so much more at peace and more filled with faith in the universe/God and life.

So, are you back home now?

Hi Jo,

Well I am home now I brought Taylor back with me on Sept 5th and he flew back on the 14th. I have been trying to figure out what I did wrong when I changed my profile picture. I still haven't been able too figure it out so today for some strange reason I decided to open AR on Explorer instead of Mozilla which I normally use and guess what......I am back in action I can comment!! I can see pictures!! It is wonderful!

You might be in Kelowna now enjoying the lovely warm weather and hopefully a stop for a vino on the patio of Quail's Gate! If you are know I am thinking of you and your wonderful time with your sons!

hi Trace,

I'm glad to see your pictures are working again....adorable profile pic of your little dog. AR has been acting strange lately since they added in the new localism code...Carole is having problems with her picture posting too. Interesting that IE seemed to solve the problem. I only ever use Firefox as it is so much faster than IE.

I'm not in Kelowna yet, however planning to go in either October or at Christmas. I've had too many other things going on these past few months and haven't been able to get away.

thanks so much for stopping by and for thinking of me!

HI Jo,

I am not sure what is going on when I logged on today and read Carole's posts the first few had what does the graphic say then as I read and commented there were no what does the graphic say but still it posted my comments and this one of your's doesn't have what does the graphic say, so hopefully this comment goes through.(they did on Carole's) I have only ever used Firefox as my husband says it is much more secure. I did some updates to Firefox around the time I changed my profile picture so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. But it is working with IE and will just use that.

Sorry to hear that you are not in lovely Kelowna but do hope you get out there, Christmas would be a good time to be with your sons.

Take care.

hi Trace,

I use mainly firefox as I find it much faster and easier to use. I do have to use IE when I am editing my website though, and for a few other programs.  I didn't know that Firefox was more secure, thanks for letting me know! Windows did an update on my computer (service pack 3) and now my camera softward won't work, so, like you,  I really do get frustrated with these updates and the problems they cause.

I hope you have a great weekend!
