It's frustrating after spending time writing a blog you think is worthwhile that no one comments. I wonder if - is anyone reading them. Was it too long? Too short? Boring? So, today, I'm going to comment on as many blogs as I can. I want you to know that if I have time to read your blog, I will take the time to comment. Good, bad or ugly - Keep on bloggin!
Hey Barbara, here is a comment for you.... Have a great, profitable weekend!
Barbara- On your home page( Click... My Home) click on the statistics link and you can see if anyone is clicking on your blogs, and how many times it has been viewed (which is just how many people saw the title on the Blogs main page/ any groups you may have posted the blog to.)
Commenting on others' blogs, here on Active Rain, does encourage reciprocal comments. You have the right idea.
HINT: Try to connect with the community more, in your writing. If you write a piece based upon what someone else said, cite them, and link to them, you'll see much more traffic and participation on your blog posts.
My partner is a Marketing & Business Consultant and has noticed that many of the most informative blogs don't get read. Blogs with interesting titles do, as do blogs about P&P (pets and politics). Additionally, those who have been here for a long time have a fan base of people who read their blogs and comment. They have a blog post up and in 10 minutes have 50 comments. So the best thing newbies can do is create their own fan base by doing exactly what you are going to do. Find people who have similar interests to yours and comment on their blogs. A great many of them will then reciprocate, and as you come to know each other, you'll both get blog comments.
I also think the key to getting comments and readers is commenting on other posts. I've had two featured posts but I can't tell you what exactly set those apart - they were funny is just about all I can say.
Good luck and keep commenting.
I think the idea of blogging has gotten way out of concept. Many people say they are "blogging" but what they are doing is more inline with posting a topic on a forum. Maybe AR needs a traditional forum feature.
I know I have writting blogs..that I really didn't think were that great..and I get comments ..then I write one that I am proud of..that I really think says someting....and nothing:) go figure
Barbara -
Echoing what others say - it takes time to build a following, and continued persistent writing about topics in which people might be interested.
Look at the Stats Page for Clicks - you'll see that more people than you think read your posts, but fewer comment.

I have thought the same thing in the past. I think you need to build your blog up and have a following. I am puzzled by it myself.
Barbara, keep your head up - there are many posts that go unanswered. With as many posts that are available here on AR it is inevitable.
Barbara,
I noticed that too. When I wrote a very informative blog, I did not get any comment. And yet I saw some posts that I won't even considering writing and they had plenty of comments. I guess some bloggers have a fan base.
Just wanted you to know that I read your blog posting! I try to take a little time each day to read what others are writing, hopefully others are doing the same.
Barbara - my neighborhood and market reports get few if any comments. However, they represent 9 of the top 10 posts that people click thru to my website. Remember your audience when you post. If you write for comments, target realtors. If you write for contacts, target consumers.
Thanks to everyone for their very informative comments and suggestions.
In a nutshell:
- checking statistics (I did) showed me that my blogs are read by more people than I knew
- joining groups sharing similar interests would be very helpful
- understanding the fundamentals is key
- target my audience
- comment on other blogs
Again, thanks. I enjoyed reading all the comments and learned a lot.
