Carlsbad Magazine, Branding, and a Blog

The Carlsbad Magazine is a terrific bi-monthly magazine chock full of information for visitors and residents.

Carlsbad magazineI find I always learn something, and I share the free publications with as many folks as I can who are thinking about moving here. It's a fabulous resource.

The Carlsbad Magazine is a great source of information about things to do, restaurants, events, shopping, the beaches, activities, and much more. And it's FREE.

I was thrilled to see the summer edition, and flattered. Or perhaps they should be flattered. I know it wasn't intentional but I can't help but think we are thinking along the same lines.

Take a look at the front cover of the July-August 2008 edition of Carlsbad Magazine.

Now take a gander at my blog, created using the ActiveRain Customizer some months ago.

Ha - I beat them to it. Now the similarity between the photos is pretty striking - see the photos below that I took, all on the same day, April, 2008, just minutes apart (a few of the 10-photo series are below). Great minds, I'd say. I think I have something here - great sunset, beach views, life guard shack (a beach staple in our area).

Clearly others are as enamored as I am with the Carlsbad beaches, especially at sunset. Lots of folks hang out then to enjoy dinner on the beach and watch the sun set. A fitting end to the day. But their magazine cover is good for only a couple of months. My blog is, well, here to stay.

Hi Jeff, With what we are learning about our communities, I think we might have a back up career in writing for the communities, what do you think. I sure like the photos and just goes to show you that your ideas are equal to or better than some of the best out there.

Love it Jeff!  I enjoy writing and photography VERY MUCH, and would love to expand in that department.  I do believe I will have plenty of time to do that this fall/winter!

Jeff, great PR. I think that is crazy your photos are so much alike, makes you wonder if they read your blog. Regardless, it is great for Carlsbad !

Jeff,

Your photos are always beautiful and striking - that the photo journalist had the same thought shows how you share a creative mind with other artists.

Dear Jeff, your photo is great. They say there is nothing new under the sun, and this proves it! Several years ago I took some downtown Houston photos for my neighborhood newsletter. One shot was a reflection in the glass wall of a building with the reflection of another building and the sky. Now I thought this idea was pretty original until four months later I saw virtually the same shot on the cover of another local Houston magazine. They also say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Keep up the great job!

What these photos tell me is that your sunsets and gorgeous views are CONSISTENT. That's a tribute to your weather. We'd be hard-pressed to have photographers take photos of the same landmark AND have the sky look the same for both photos.

That is so cool. Do you have the same scene on local ads or flyers? People would automatically assume there's a connection. That's great for business!
