Reflections From Two Mirrored Towers: The Ritz Carlton of White Plains Reflects the Mood of the Day – White Plains, NY 10601

Although I hate to admit it, I’ve become somewhat fascinated by the Ritz Carlton.  I’m not generally a fan of modern architecture. My personal taste leans more to the art nouveau look of the Bar Building which stands in ornate contrast to the sleek towers.  But one thing I have noticed about the two 42 story towers gracing our downtown is that they never look the same. Like a chameleon that changes its coloring to blend into its surroundings, the mirrored façade of the Ritz is constantly changing to reflect the “mood” of the sky at any given moment – changing constantly as the day progresses from dawn to dusk.  You can look at it a thousand times and it will always appear different.  The façade changes with the time of year, the time of day, the cloud cover, the humidity etc.

Today I saw the towers on bright day with fairly substantial cloud cover.  It was like the towers blended into the sky.  They were almost like a ghostly illusion jutting into the clouds.

The Ritz Carlton also reflects the surrounding buildings. Here the Ritz reflects Trump Tower, part of City Center and 1 City Place.

Ruthmarie ~ I love how these buildings have the mirrored effect. The clouds make them look so beautiful. Even if you are not a huge fan of modern architecture, there is no denying the beauty of these buildings!

Thanks Don,

These buildings never look the same twice...It makes them very fun to photograph.

Hi Terrie,

I find them interesting because no two photos ever look the same with them.  The time of day, cloud cover, time of year all impact the appearence.  I've been tryiing to catch the buildings just priror to sunset when they can take on a pink cast that is quite unusual. Just never have hit it right.  But yesterday, the clouds were so interesting that I parked my car and started shooting pics.  I only have a small camera with limited capacity, but I get what I can with it.

I'm another one who just loves to look at buildings, in the morning sunrise, in the noonday clouds, in the evening sunset. Rarely do the buildings look the same on any given day, even though we do get a lot of sun here in San Diego.

Thanks Jim,

These mirrored towers do have their personality and moods that seem to reflect the weather and surroundings.  I'm not generally a fan of modern structures. But these towers are unique.

Hi Jennifer,

Have you had the opportunity to see the downtown recently?  If you haven't, it might be difficult to recognize.  I'm not generally a fan of modern structures, but the clouds creating that mottled effect on the structure were really surprising.

Hi Ruthmarie, where I live there are few high rises, (maybe 15 stories) so I love to see city photo's with a variety of architecture. You've captured the different "moods" so well. Love how the clouds reflect.

Hi Gita,

Is the style of the building similar in Phili?

Hi Laurie,

Thanks....I'm glad people are enoying the pics.

Hi there Kevin - Thanks - the Ritz is a building of many moods.

Hi Debbie - Thanks - Sometimes I don't fully appreciate what I've got here. The traffic gets annoying etc.
