LOL...Palin will not get the Democratic base to vote for her. The base will vote for Obama.
Palin soldifies the right wing of the Rs which was not solid at all. They will now drag every eligible person on the right to the polls.
She also brings in a few from the middle but McCain does that even more so.
This race will be decided by the center. Regular Americans who will look at Obama and McCain and decide who they trust to lead them. Palin just makes sure the right is in.
You will be surprised by how many people in the center will jump in as well when they find out more about her.

How does teaching abstinence make her a hypocrite? Was she pregnant prior to marriage? Do you know anyone that practiced proper birth control but still wound up pregnant? I do!

Jay - I think she has twice as many brains as Bush. (which perhaps isn't saying much - but she has enough I think to do fine..)
I guess I should have said a more intelligent Joe Average.... though I disagree on a few of her views....and will be voting for Bob Barr...
I'm with the democrats on social freedom (freedom of choice etc.) - & the republicans on more economic freedom (less governement & less taxes - which always screws everything up anyway) - and less foreign intervention / gifting.... That is the libertarian platform.
The tax code is an abomination. No rocket scientist can do their taxes anymore.... The accountants just love the way they keep it complex.

John , she is pushing for abstinence only ,on her platform,and shares the views of the Republican party ,which is pushing for Birth control and IUDs to be put in the same category as Abortion.
Perhaps if she taught her daughter the proper use of a condom , she would have avoided this big embarrassment.
Though she will have her hands full , with answering calls from the Lawyers she just hired to help her squeeze out of Trooper gate.
I do not blame her though , as McCain was foolish enough to make a fast , rash decision , with no real vetting process.
Just goes to show what we could expect if he won.Though we already know about some of his other poor decisions
Hey Chicago: You mean poor decisions like long time associations with hometown terrorist Bill Ayers? Or hometown Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Or hometown felon Tony Rezco?
Give me a break... We're supposed to as liberals always say "give" the keys over to a community organizer with zero experience running anything except for a higher power position as soon as he get's elected to anything.
Poor decisions? Please...... Obama has a long list of bad decisions and associations and a really short list of accomplishments or executive experience.
And just today he states that he has more executive experience than Sarah Palin by running his camapaign for the last 2 years. So I guess if that qualifies for experience and that is his example used than they must be starting from the same level.
We're NOT handing the keys over to Obama.
And by the way, I don't appreciate being referred & lumped together as a lemming. That has proven to be on the UNAPPROVED list! McCain/Palin 2008
In Chicago , we meet and deal with many people whose viewpoints do not agree with ours.
It is called growing and learning.
Palin admits she knows nothing at all about foreign policy, and so far her speeches all sound the same.
She seems to already be planning on the big loss by stating the run for VP will be a great boost for the state of Alaska.
She was never against that bridge to nowhere, till all the bad publicity surfaced.
There may be more and more surfacing as it has only been a few days and she was never vetted.
McSame is a Maverick alright,too everyones detriment.
As the judge told him during the Keating five scandal,he used poor judgment, and this is not something we can afford at such a critical juncture in time.
I am the mother of a 6 year old daughter with Down Syndrome as well as 2 typical children, ages 12 & 14. Sara palin needs to focus on raising her children, especially working with her child with Down Syndrome, to ensure that he, as well as her other children get all that they need from their mother, not a nanny! It sounds to me like Sara Palin intends on letting "healthcare professionals" enjoy raising her infant son. Keep writing those checks, Sara! You are missing out & that child needs YOU! (As well as your other beautiful children!)
Her speech tonight was excellent.... I think the opposition is trying to grasp at straws to pick on her..... All the picks (especially by the liberal media) sound pretty pathetic to me.. and without real basis...

Sarah Palin is the US’s answer to Margaret Thatcher!
Anyone who thinks she cannot handle the job or deal briskly and efficiently with ANY issue, including foreign governments … well, they haven’t met our Sarah <grin>. She is not “just a woman”, she is not “just a way to get votes” and if anyone expects her to smile, simper and be sweet – they don’t know Sarah. She is *more than* qualified for the job and the best possible choice McCain could have made.
As an Alaskan resident as well as a resident of Wasilla, AK, where Sarah Palin was at one time Mayor … I can speak with confidence. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is exactly what she portrayed during her introduction this morning and exactly what our US Government needs. She is ethical to a fault (if there is such a thing), a refreshing change to the status-quo and as smart and determined a PERSON (gender really isn’t an issue here as far as I’m concerned) as anyone could ask for at the head of government.
Sarah is no naïve “small town mayor” – she just *started out* there. Btw, as Mayor of Wasilla, she brought this “small town” through a lot of GOOD changes and left it at the end of her term having grown to the 4th largest CITY in Alaska – a lot of growth and a stronger economic base than ever before.
She has EXECTUTIVE experience *running a government* (something NONE of the other candidates can actually boast, even John McCain <g>) as Governor of Alaska and got there by defeating the incumbent* Republican Governor, who was definitely part of the “old school” and who WAS very much in the pocket of the big oil companies. We in Alaska wanted change – and we got it in the person of Sarah Palin!
Sarah Palin is everything she looks to be and more. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska has been as high as 95% and is currently leveled out consistently in the upper 80 percentile throughout the state (and in both parties) - the HIGHEST approval rating of ANY sitting Governor.
Sarah has been turning around corruption in the Legislature of Alaska - turning things on their ear for that matter; cutting spending in spite of the increased income the state is currently receiving due to the high oil prices - she has insisted on putting a huge amount of the "windfall" into savings for the future rather than spending, spending, spending - and has insisted from the get-go on what she refers to as "honest, ethical and transparent governing" - no more closed door meetings and dealings - the big oil companies thought she would be a pushover and have learned better to their chagrin.
She understands the "real people" and the economic issues we all face (Alaskans along with the rest of the country) - she was one of "us" not long ago. Rather than passing useless "laws" or throwing money at pet projects, she (most recently) temporarily suspended the state gas tax (on gasoline at the pumps, fuel oil and natural gas for homes, etc.) and has ordered checks issued to ALL residents of Alaska this fall in an attempt to assist with the burden of high fuel costs for the upcoming winter. I could go on and on, but that's enough for now <smile>. She isn’t doing these things to be popular – she is doing it because her constituents are HURTING financially and she is in a position to help.
She became Governor of Alaska by defeating the Incumbent Republican Governor and doing it *without* the money or the support of the Republican Party, which was amazing in itself - and she won by a landslide. The "powers that be" at that time totally underestimated Sarah and learned better the hard way. Let’s hope Obama does the same. Sarah has done exactly what she claimed she was going to do when elected and is just as popular today as the day she was elected - perhaps more so since even the Democrats up here seem to like her - she works well with both sides in the Legislature here.
Sarah "belongs" to us (Alaskans) ... and although we are going to be terribly sorry to see her leave before she finishes the job she started here (two years ago) straightening out OUR State <grin> ... we understand she is needed for a bigger purpose and hopefully her Lt. Governor will be able to fill her shoes here and continue the job.
As for worrying about what would happen if McCain were to die or step down or whatever ... here in AK we've only been wondering how long we would be able to KEEP Sarah in Alaska and have seen her as our first woman President of the USA from the start. It's always been a matter of whether she would wait until the end of her TWO terms as Governor (no doubt at ALL that she would be re-elected if she ran for a second term at the end of her current term) ... or end up in Washington sooner. She could do the job TODAY.
Personally, I feel a lot better about McCain now that I know he has someone as savvy, as strong, as ethical and as steady as Sarah at his back. She will be an excellent Vice President ... and my guess is will be our US Republican Presidential candidate in four years - AND by then the country will KNOW here – will love and respect her as we do here - and she'll win by as much of a landslide as she did here in Alaska. I only wonder if McCain has a clue what he is unleashing on the US of A <grin>. She is going to be a fresh wind, but also a strong wind.
Is that enough of an endorsement? If not, I'll add this ... Jerry and I have for many years felt the best "vote" was to vote for the lesser of two "evils" and hope they didn't do too much damage. Two years ago during our State Governor's race was the first time EVER that we actually asked for not just a little sign to put in our yard showing our support of our candidate (something we've never felt the desire to do at all before) - we asked for a full 4' x 8' "SARAH PALIN FOR GOVERNOR!" sign and were proud to have it. She hasn't let us or Alaska down. She will do the same for the USA if given the opportunity.

When the declaration of independence was signed 90% of the signitures were from Christian God fearing men, now it is almost an abomination to say you believe in God or go to church. But a belief like muslim that preaches death to the non-believers is considered sacred. Hell yes I am voting for McCain / Palin as they seem to be the only two TRUE Americans in the race.

I did not make up my mind , till his speech during the convention where I thought he was specific enough for me.
This helped make up my mind.Perhaps you are a little closed minded to not see the contrast , as he did lay out far more of what he will do than McCain did.
I will save the big details for another thread. However that on the two most important issues which are the war and economics. Obama mentioned yesterday surge did work, he admits this, but also would like his opponent to admit that the whole premise of the war was based on a false premise.
To make it simple for you. We never should have been there in the first place.
Obama would have gone into Afghanistan and gotten the person responsible for 9/11, which is Osama bin Laden, which Bush has had many years to find and done nothing about him.
On economics, he would be taxing those making over $250,000 a year to fit into this category?. My guess would be no you not so what's your problem?

Unfortunately, many Americans are easily brainwashed by the propaganda which the Republican Party puts out.
During the Republican convention shouts of USA USA USA were constantly heard with a backdrop of the American flag behind most of the speakers.
This is an old marketing and brainwashing technique used for many years to make it seem as if the opponent is somehow less an American. And obviously has worked on, you.
The Republicans are known for using lies and smear tactics against their opponents in order to achieve victory. Even when their platform is weak.
Despite all their chest thumping another four years of Bush economics and war mongering is not what most of the country wants ,and this is why Obama has a lead despite the false propaganda of him being a Muslim. If you have any intelligence whatsoever. You know. This is not the case.

Since you're so into our founding forefathers perhaps you should realize. They also believed in freedom of religion and had nothing in the Constitution against Muslims, and I am sorry you're so prejudiced.
Perhaps you should focus more on the fact that American jobs have gone overseas with the help of the Republican ideal's.

Perhaps you should focus more on the fact that Obama went to Iraq spoke with their leaders and said he thought we could perhaps pull out within 16 months after McCain said we should stay for 100 years. Yet, one week later, Bush declared, we would be out in 16 months.
If Obama could accomplish as a candidate imagine what he could accomplish as president.
I'm sorry, if a president who desires peace with the rest of the world while bringing back American jobs where they belong right here on our own soil, is in your book a bad thing. To me, that is more important than my stocks.
Another good Republican idea is to get rid of the Social Security system and I hope you have plenty of money saved up as you will need it.if McCain wins.
I am a simple home inspector and not a rich man so therefore I will not be the rich man's surf or mouth piece.
All I heard at the convention last night was McCain is a former POW and war hero, for which I bow and congratulate him. But this does not make a solid platform for guiding the country and other then knowing that he will drill for oil I actually heard nothing to instill confidence in him actually making decisions which will control our daily lives.
From what I saw he had a problem even reading the Teleprompter.
This is a big problem considering most of the big Republican candidates are either actors are models, which makes them perfectly suited for reading the Teleprompter.
Nice try Bob. We understand what politics are like in Chicago so we feel for you. The thing is Obama has done nothing! Not a thing. It is unfortunate that you know it and are still willing to write what you just wrote.

I'll try to keep it updated with other info about her that I run across..... Perhaps including what type of fly she uses when she goes fishing..
Definately a lively debate going on here... I'd vote for McCain/Palin - but since I'm in the Chicago area - and Obama will probably wrap up Illinois - I've decided to vote for who I really want - Bob Barr - the libertarian candidate.... He's like the Republicans on less government / less intervention (I really liked that McCain said - lets stop giving these countries who don't like us or respect us - 700 billion dollars of our money per year) -- and like the Dem's on freedom of choice for abortion, freedom on various social issues (outlawing drugs never solved anything - just created more crime because the cost of it was so high... if it was legalized - the cost would go down and the crime would go down - and usage might even go down..) There's too much government (that screws up everything it touches) -- too many laws -- and the tax code is insane. Should just have a flat tax on people w/o all the loopholes... Sure - it would put the accountants out of biz - but....
We pay over 50% in taxes here in the US when you add it all up.... Medicaid, social security, almost 10% sales tax here in the Chicago area, real estate taxes (insane here in Lake County), state tax, federal tax, gas tax, liquor tax, etc. etc. We get very little for our money. If I'm going to pay that much - I might as well live in Europe - where I least i get something from it - such as free healthcare & free college for my kid...
Rick - I had Bob Barr as a guest on my radio show. I liked most of his platform, but in Florida every vote will count and so McCain/Palin get mine.

I've listened to both her speeches and look forward to hearing more from her and about her. I will say this. She has been a big surprise to all, and a big boost to the McCain campaign. Great strategic move on their part.
Keating 5: McCain was included in the investigation primarily so that there would be at least one Republican target. Glenn's inclusion in the investigation has been attributed to Republicans who were angered by the inclusion of McCain, as well as committee members who thought that dropping Glenn (and McCain) would make it look bad for the remaining three Democratic Senators.
