I've seen a number of decisions come from our courts and our gov't that have concerned me, but this particular decision concerns me more than many others. Since when should our gov't stop a company from being concerned for our well being? How about when it comes to protecting the profits of big industry....that's when, and it's not right.

It's been made known by past FDA leaders who have retired that the FDA protects big business profits instead of the American Public as it is supposed to, now the courts are getting in on the act, and we SHOULD be very concerned.

Who are they protecting this time: The Meat Industry.
The topic: MAD COW DISEASE.

Although Mad Cow Disease is considered to be "deadly," the gov't says it is within their scope to "prevent" such testing. I have just one thing to say at this moment...EXCUSE ME???

What reason would they have for making such a decision than to protect the profits of the meat industry? It is certainly to our benefit that every cow be tested, yet they want to block this decision by a company who puts our safety first. Something certainly sounds a bit "fishy" to me.

Click here to read the AP story.

There are many facts about Mad Cow that the general public just does not know.
I've been researching this issue for several years now, and what I have found scares me so much that this meat-loving fool has quit eating meat. Lots of my friends and family "roll their eyes" at me when I tell them I have quit, and they note that they "will never give up meat," regardless of the reasons presented as to why they should.

I was of that same opinion too
...until I started researching this issue and found out what is happening in the meat industry and how dangerous this is to our health. The problems caused by Mad Cow can take up to 10-20 years before symptoms start to arise. Because of this lag, people have a false sense of security. What many do not know is that Mad Cow Disease can take the life of a child very quickly, and already has done so a number of times. It's been awhile since I have researched this issue, but I am going to start again, and I will write blogs to share this information in my "Better Health" Group. Mad Cow is very dangerous, and most people know little to nothing about it. Maybe you should!

Consider joining our group...I will be sending out emails to all members as I post new blogs regarding important health issues.

Why do I think the above disclaimer is funny? Glad you asked...
The medical industry trains doctors that the cure to disease is drugs and surgery. Drugs treat the symptoms of disease, they DO NOT cure disease. They are treating the symptoms, not the cause of the disease. Preventing and reversing disease is quite simple and the same methods apply to almost everything...but, the medical industry cannot make the big money on these methods, and quite frankly, one does not need to be a doctor to show someone how to properly take care of their body. It really is that simple. Bottom Line...if the medical industry taught people how to prevent and reverse disease, it would bankrupt the industry. There would be a lot of empty hospitals. Do any of you believe that they would do that to themselves? Think about it.

Gregory, I grew up on a cattle farm and have an intimate knowledge of what big industry can do to the family farm.  We have bigger problems than just this, our Government is protecting the insurance industry, too, by allowing bans on smoking and trans-fats; our private rights and personal freedoms to pursue happiness are being taken away by the courts.  yes, police Powers are in place to protect our nation as a whole, but when the court stretches those powers to dictate what I can and can not consume is going, too far.  The Constitution has gone from a broad concept of over-riding ideals to a contract that lawyers defend in court.  Great post, it got me thinking!  (PS: An interesting point about this issue is that The Mormon Church controls over 75% of the beef production, etc. in the US.)

Someone once said that goverment was "of the people, by the people, for the people." That's arguable.

Hi Jane - We may disagree just a bit here, as I'm quite sure I would say the gov't isn't protecting the insurance industry by allowing bans on certain substances.  I think they protect the insurance industry by passing laws that limit  lawsuits against them.

As for banning certain substances, I personally don't think companies should have ever been allowed to produce products that are intended for us to consume in some way yet are dangerous to our health.  I wouldn't classify that as a part of our personal right to pursue our own happiness to our total detriment.  For some people, the right to smoke pot, or crack, could be constued as "their right to pursue happiness," but no one agrees that this should be allowed either.  There should be certain limitations, within reason of course, but where to draw lines is always open for debate.

Think about trans-fats...this is one of those products that SHOULD NOT be on the market.  Sure, it makes things taste a bit better, but this is one of those products guaranteed to cause heart disease.  This is truly a dangerous substance in regards to our health.  There are so many products in the food industry that are killing us, and people don't even know it.  There is just so much I could write on this topic as I am somewhat of a health nut.  I've actually opened a group for this very reason, as I have been looking into the American Health Crisis now for more than 5 years, and people really need to know what is going on out there.  For those interested in this group, or even for those just curious, the address is:

Consider joining.  It's new and just getting off the ground.  The advantage to joining...I'll send out group emails whenever I post blogs that I feel the members want to know about.  I won't email for every single blog, but I will for a lot of them.  I hope to see you there!

Hi Jim - You certainly said a mouth full.  I bet we could gather a small group of about 5 or 6 people and talk about that for hours on end.  In my opinion, when they say "people" I would classify that as pertaining only to those in power and a part of "their group."  There are so many things going on behind the scenes that people just do not know about, and there is very little that we can even do about it.

The only way to change things is to vote out the old and bring in the new, but the problem there is that big money will always influence those in office, and the corruption would just continue on a whole new level.  It might even get worse as new people would probably be even more controllable (is that a word?).  Based on some things I have learned, I have come to question our voting process.  I really have to wonder if our vote means anything at all other than to appease the people into thinking they are actually having imput into choosing who our leaders are.  Something seems terribly wrong, but that is of course...my opinion.  I hope I am misintrepting things wrong.  If the general public had any idea what goes on behind the scenes, there would be a tremendous uproar in this land.

Oh, this is really scary stuff.  I did a report in high school and another in college on Mad Cow Disease and it is absolutely frightening.  I was in England when the scare was really high several years ago and I was terrified to eat meat.  And now we have to worry about it here in America.  I love meat, though sometimes these scares make you think of becoming a vegetarian.  But then you see that spinach and tomoatoes can kill you.  UGH!  What other options are there?  Grow everything yourself organically??

Hi Lisa - I'm one of the biggest meat lovers that ever existed.  And I no longer eat meat.  I go out of my way to tell people about the things I have learned, and very, very few people want to hear it.  They have no idea what is happening out there and they feel that if no one tells them, it won't effect them.  This is truly a case of the "what you don't know won't hurt you" syndrome.  This won't hurt people, it will kill them.  And it's a terrible way to die.  Diagnosing it....to get around this problem, the symptoms are almost identical to Alzheimers...and I think they may actually be one and the same, but that is something I can't prove, and I am not a scientist.  I keep waiting for that declaration to be made, but I know it will be squashed as soon as someone makes that link, if they ever do.  There is too much money at stake, and those in power operate on the greed principle, including the gov't agencies who are supposed to protect us.  I could go on for hours.  Anyone wanting to talk about this, feel free to call me.

By the way Lisa, I have switched over to organic food.  Nothing is totally safe anymore as we have really polluted this planet, but I prefer to take my chances by going the safest route possible.  Besides...organic food is alive and feeds our cells.  When we eat dead or processed food, we only give our bodies a source of sugar/fuel, which doesn't really feed our cells.  When I eat that way, I stay hungry.  When I eat live organic food, my hunger is satisfied.  I can't tell you how much I love the difference.  No more need for caffeine to keep me going!!!  Even on days when I don't get enough sleep, the food keeps me energized if I eat properly.
