This image was shot in 2006 on Skyline Drive right at twilight. I shot this with a Canon EOS A2 on Fuji Velvia chrome. The sky was this exact shade of blue and purple and I choose the slide film to better record the latitude of the shadow detail and the vibrant colors. I scanned this image from the original slide.

That's beautiful. I love sunsets! It's like you almost can't go wrong when you photograph a sunset. I always feel like God's doing some painting for me =)  But Florida is flat. You're so blessed to have the added layer of a mountain range to make the photo more interesting.

Lisa-

Thanks for the kind words about my art. I am certainly blessed to live here in Virginia. We have the Ocean, Mountains and everything in between. I have always considered myself blessed to be a Virginian and from Hampton Roads.

Robert-

That evening on Skyline drive with my future wife was an incredible evening and the colors God created for us were breathtaking. This image only captured a moment of his wonderful creation and I am glad you enjoyed it.

Bryant-You had made a comment on the photos I had posted of the Blue Ridge Parkway so I wanted to check out your blog. I have to tell you your photo of the parkway is got mine beat by a mile. That is spectacular. Thanks so much for commenting on mine so I could end up seeing yours. I'm an amateur photographer but I love taking photos and plan on taking a photography class in the spring at the local college here. I took Photo 1 back in 1993 and wonder if I should take it again before I take Photo 2. Any thoughts on that? I'd appreciate your input -Pat

Pat-

I think the fundamentals of photography are the most important aspect of photography. I was lucky enough that both my parents were photographers and I grew up with the fundamentals. I think the class might be a good refresher if nothing else. Take care and if you have any technical questions please feel free to ask.

Bryant-Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it.  I remember some stuff from Photo 1  but didn't know if with digital cameras being used more now that would make Photo 1 a lot different than it was back in 1993. I have a digital camera Canon A550 and also a book Digital Photography for Dummies and am wondering if by reading that before Spring that I could jump to Photo 2 without feeling lost. Any thoughts there?

Bryant,  Your photos prove experience is the name of the game - I realize I need a photography course if only for fun

Pat-

Digital or film doesn't matter, the fundamentals are the same: composition, exposure, lighting. If after reading the book you have a grasp on those then take the advanced class. And as always if you have a technical question please don't hesitate to ask.
