Marketing: Learning from Marti Garaughty & "Art of Marketing You" Tutorials

The Art of Marketing You Group, here on Active Rain, has become my new best friend. I love new ideas, and love things that can increase my business. Like so many people, time seems to be more abundant than money these days. Reading Active Rain, and other Real Estate Networking sites keeps us on top of any new changes to the Market, or anything new for Marketing or Technology. Following marti garaughty's Blog and Wallpaper Tutorials is like a soap opera....each week we just want more :)

Well, Marti's last Post............was a great Tutorial on how to make our own Wallpaper. I was quite honored that Marti used one of my Photos as his example, and helped me make a September 2008 Wallpaper/Calendar FREE for download at my outside Blog California Real Estate and Life .

OK, this Post toots my own horn, but I am so proud of myself, and extremely Thankful to Marti.......

As soon as Marti's Post came out I started trying to make my own Calendar. Then I had questions....several actually. I know Marti explained it all, and in plain English to boot...but I still messed it up. This is my first attempt, and the picture took too much room, and my Icons didn't fit right. But I didn't give up. I commented back on Marti's Post, and then after he answered I tried again......and again.....and again.

Well.....today I got it.

October 2008 Wallpaper template

I am so thrilled.....I have the October 2008 Wallpaper done. myself.....I did it :) This is a picture of the Progress I was making learning from the Wallpaper Tutorials. I had to keep my Active Rain Window opened to Marti's Tutorial in the beginning, but who better to stay with me hour after hour while I practiced.

And now that I can do it, it wasn't that hard after all :)

You can Download my September 2008 Wallpaper for FREE from my other Blog: California Real Estate and Life, and then the October 2008 Wallpaper/Calendar will be available at the end of September. If you can't find it on my blog...look under the Custom Calendars Category on the right hand side of the blog, in the Sidebar. Remember to check back each month for the new one, I am thinking about having 2 choices each month, but can't guarantee it :) If you would like a Custom Wallpaper/Calendar of Cabazon or something in the Cabazon/Whitewater area let me know, as I probably have a picture that I can make one for you. Just send me an email and I'll do my best.

Hi Kathy, Congratulations! I haven't gotten that far as yet but maybe tomorrow I will also give it a try. Marti sure does have a way, doesn't he. He is so amazingly talented.

I agree Marti has really helped me take my website and computer graphic up a few notches. She is AWESOME!!! I've learned plenty and I'm sure I'll learn even more in the months and years to come.

Hi William- I am so happy tonight as I played with the Text part forever to get it right, and to actually make the calendar itself. My friend I would suggest you get comfortable, and just keep playing :) You're more tech savvy than I am so it might be easier.

Ann-Marie-Unfortunately my Company Website is a template, so not much I can do to change the Graphics, but Marti did design my Blog, and my Blog Header :) Very very talented Artist with a soul.....that's the best part.

Hi Kathy, soooooooooooooooo cool to see my plain English tech lessons paid off, I knew you'd get it. My wallpapers looked terrible at the beginning. It's just trial and error as I told you, nothing is written in stone. I'm proud of you kiddo! Have a great Sunday!

Sally- Wow, can you believe I actually learned it :) I can't wait to see yours when you do it...those beautiful Hawaiian Pictures would make beautiful Calendars/Wallpaper :)

Marti- Thank you friend. I wasn't sure I'd get it, but anything new I ask a bunch of questions then just keep trying until I get it :) Anyone that reads your stuff, and/or hires you for your Art or Graphics is one lucky person :) that's my Opinion and I'm sticking to it....have a good day, and I hope all is OK .

Liz- Thanks....I really like my October one....it's a little loud, but the coloring is fall like :) I'm making a trippy one too.....variety :) Maybe later I will just stick to conventional, but for now it's fun. You don't really need a whole day...just a whole lot of patience..... LOL :) Let me know when you make yours...heck I am going to want others for myself too :)

Wow, I love that photo of the stairwell. You are doing great. Your blog looks great. Your calendar looks great. I hope to engage marti for some of my own things in the future. This is encouraging to those who haven't tried it yet!

Hi Doreen- Thank you, and thank you for going to my outside blog and checking out the September 2008 Wallpaper/Calendar. That picture of the Stairwell, and another one I took in Solvang, and titled it "Texture" it's easier to see all the different textures on a larger Photo :)

Is the larger photo at your website? I really like the photos of the old buildings with the bright paint and flowers. I just find it beautiful to look at.

Doreen- No...I was going to make it into a Wallpaper, and didn't, but I could :) the picture you see here was my first attempts.....and I sized it wrong and did the verbiage too large....If you want I will make this one and put it up for one of the October ones . do you want it just to be a Wallpaper, or a Calendar also?

If you don't make it a calendar, then it will last longer. :)

Cynthia- I am so glad you liked that one, the next one is more Fall like....the second one up there with the Flower is one of the ones for October. And just think when you learn, you can add this to your Holiday Gifts, along with the fudge, cookies, candles and everything else you make :) Don't forget to let me know when you have one made.....sometimes I miss Posts :)

Cathy-This really is a very caring community....marti has helped so many of us, and his tutorials are quite detailed. If you get stuck just ask him, or you can ask me....but that could be dangerous :) Anyway, good luck with them, and if you have a question serioulsy ask. If someone doesn't know the answer we usually know who might. That's the beauty of this site.

Jon-Ahh....my outside blog site is relatively new...I am working on getting more "stuff" on it. My AR blog has many hidden jewels in past posts.....as does marti's. Enjoy :)
