Get The Right Paint For The Job
Ready to spruce up your home? If you're planning a few painting projects, keep these tips in mind as you purchase your supplies.
The quality of paint you buy depends on the ingredients used to make it. To check the quality of paint, compare the white flat paint of each of the brands. The whiter and brighter the paint, the better the quality because better paints use titanium dioxide, the whitest pigment. Lesser quality paints use calcium carbonate and silica, which are grayer whites.
The best latex paints are made of 100% acrylic resins instead of vinyl-acrylic mixes. The best oil-based paints are made with low-odor or odorless ingredients.
Oil-based paints become moisture-resistant faster and provide a tougher finish, but latex tends to clean up more easily.
