Selling a house in Lone Tree CO?
Knock, Knock - curb appeal of your front door - Seller Series
Getting ready to sell a home in Lone Tree CO? How is your curb appeal? What kind of first impression does your house leave to the buyers as they pull up to your curb? Step outside and take an objective look at the front entrance to your house.
Buyers will be standing in front of your front door for a few moments before entering, as their agent gets the key from the lockbox. This gives the buyers time to form an opinion about the home, even before stepping inside.
Here are some tips to freshen up your front door and the area surrounding it.
1. If the door is weathered, beat up or otherwise in bad shape. It may be best to replace the door. If the paint or stain is worn and peeling an new coat of paint will do wonders. By the way, there are companies that can do this for you (I tried re-staining my front door once and it turned out to be a way larger project than I had anticipated, and I swore I would not - ever- try it again).
2. Check to make sure the door opens smoothly, without squeaks and creaks and that it doesn't get stuck.
3. Check to make sure the screws are tight and that the door handle doesn't fall off onto the hands of the agent (this happened once).
4. If you have a screen door, check to make sure it is in good condition and that the screen/s are not ripped or broken.
5. Check the frame of the door. Paint and caulk where necessary.
Take a step back and see what is on the steps/path leading to your door.
1. Excess "decor" - remove excess decor to make the space in front of your entrance look larger and clean.
2. Scrubs, plants - trim plants and scrubs that may be taking over the path for easier and safer access. If tree branches are covering the path, trim them too.
3. Spider webs, dirt - sweep the area including walls
4. If you have planters, make sure they are maintained, if not remove them too
Adding a touch of "sparkle"
To add a little bit of that extra something here is what you can do:
Hang a seasonally fitting wreath on the front door and place 1 or 2 colorful plants or decorations in visually appealing places, but avoid over doing it. Less is more.
If you have a patio area next do your front door, make sure that area is clean as well and remove any hoses or tools or trash recepticles that may be present.
With these easy steps your front entrance will be inviting and leave a lasting, welcoming impression for the buyers.
