With an eye towards the future, UDR, Inc. has begun the development of what will become a 99 acre community in Addison near Brookhaven Country Club and Brookhaven Community College. Named after 
Vitruvius, a first century Roman architect, Vitruvian Park will feature:
- 5500 residential units (apartments)
- 300,000 square feet of retail and office space
- 3 parks: one with an ampitheater, one for outdoor sports and games, and a 12-acre park around a spring-fed creek
The project is being built with a green-initiative program including Energy Star and Leadership in Energy Design standards.
- Waste from the demolition of the existing housing will be recylced
- Recycled materials will be used in the construction of the new buildings
- Non-toxic paints, carpeting and glue will be used
- Rainwater runoff will be captured and recycled
- Green roofs and energy efficient light fixtures will be incorporated
- Shuttle service to DART Rail will be accessible
- Walkablility and sustainablility are part of the plan
Nine aging apartment complexes were purchased by UDR for this project. So far, 25 acres have been cleared. It is estimated that the first apartments will be ready for occupancy within two years (2010) and the project is expected to be fully completed by 2017. The developers hope to prove that there are advantages to high density living, but they don't think the label "new urbanism" is correct. They liken it "old urbanism" when people lived above where they worked.
With Addison's current daytime population of about 100,000 and nighttime population of only 16,000, Vitruvian Park should provide housing opportunities for the local workforce.
