No we didn't find these kitties at the city dump. They were dumped on us my a non-caring heartless individual who assumes that he or she can just randomly drop off an animal at the driveway of a rural home.  If they must do it why do they choose a rural home? A kitten in more likely to become breakfast for a coyote where we live than find happiness.

This is not the first time this has happened to us. The saddest part is that the animal when dumped will usually hang tight to the spot where the former idiot owner dumped it. It is loyal to a human that could care less. It is so much easier to just take them to the closest animal shelter.  I suppose some folks don't want to waste the gallon of gas or so that would take.

Both of these kittens were skin and bones when we found them.....actually I think they found us! We are doing our best to revive them and I think they will make it. But we are now faced with a delima. We honestly have enough cats now...four.   And we will probably get attached to these. It is not fair to the other four or our pet budget which is already stretched.

We have managed to get one of the kittens into a kennel , bathed her for fleas, and her little belly is nice and full, but her little brother is another story. He's a little more wild. He eats, drinks, and  then runs for the trees...but we are certain he will eventually succumb to an easier life style. He is staying close to his sister's kennel as you can see in the photo.

If you have pets you can't take care of remmeber there is a place to take them.....It's not my driveway please!

I hope nobody figures out what a sucker I am for caring for animals that don't have a home.  I feed more than I should already too!  That's all I need is for people to start dropping them off.

Trey:  In a way, it was probably meant to be.  Though what runs through peoples minds is hard to figure.  I think these two have found a good temporary home and I do hope you can adopt them out.  Maybe feature them on a blog one you get them fattened up, healthy and calm.

Trey, I understand.  My husband called me one day and said, "Look what's outside."  It was a cat and two kittens.  We fed them and within a few weeks we had 7 kittens!  We had a hard time getting rid of 7 kittens.  Momma cat we took to the vet and had spayed.  She still lives on our back porch.  But getting rid of kittens is tough!  Good luck.

Trey,  It is such a shame some people won't be responsible for their own animals.  Spaying and neutering can keep unwanted animals from being dumped on others or killed at shelters. I hope you can find good homes for them soon.

Wow Trey, it is a shame that people do such things. It is possible to take them to a shelter or give them away?

Trey, my neighbor passed away when we lived in the Sierras. Her relatives just left her cat. It took me six weeks of feeding her to finally be able to get my hands on her. How heartless people can be. She was a treasure. Good luck with the brother!

Trey - We also have to deal with people just "dumping" their animals. We have an animal control person now that will pick up stray animals and take them to the shelter. Seems on weekends people drive up  here to Canyon Lake and drop off cats and dogs they no longer want. Shame on them!

Hope you cand find a home for those kitties.

Trey, I feel your pain.  Be glad they didn't dump them in a river someplace.  I think there is a more powerful hand working here.  Good luck on finding these kitties nice loving homes.

Trey... you have a big heart!  These kitties were lucky to find you after having found someone that didn't care about them enough to make sure they made it to the local shelter.

Trey:  Ya think maybe word is out that you take in stays and that's why they are getting left on your doorstep?  I don't have to worry about them getting dumped off to me because somehow they manage to follow my son home from the park or school.  Last year it was a dog that I had to shelter and pay vet costs for.  This year it was a kitty.  Both times we were able to find good homes but NO MORE strays please.

Trey, I live in a rural area also and we have had this happen too.  3 dogs showed up last christmas eve and I kept them for 2 months until I found a shelter to take them.  (After I fattened them up).  It is amazing how people think they can just dump thier animials out.  But with all of the foreclosures here it is increasing because people have to move and cannot take thier animals.  No excuse but just an explanation.

Trey,

That little brother looks so darned cute!  I wish I had room for him!  I'll bet you'll have him tamed before long.  Then, he'll be ready to find a new home and family selected by you!

The kitties were lucky, we also have animals dumped in our area, it sad, that people do that

Steve....I used to despise cats...and then one day while waiting on a client to look at a vacant home I heard this little cry and found a starving kitten. Took him home and my wife asked me if I was ok because she knew I didn't like cats ....oh well we all change. :)

Sometimes maybe we are the lucky ones.  We should be stewards with our surroundings including our animals.

Thanks for the kind words.

Ok it looks like we are going to keep these two kittens . Before we could get them to the shelter, they escaped. They are now staying under a shed building and sneak out at night to eat and drink. We've decided we will take them on.....now we have 6.  But they will all be treated humanely.

Good for you Trey.  It's hard no doubt. I think you'll appreciate this story....  We had 4 of our own, then the skinniest cat I ever saw was hanging out on our back patio. Skin and bones, so we started feeding her and she would start howling like crazy.  Found out she had 4 kittens in the neighbors yard.  They don't have any cats nor wanted them so we told them we would take them, fatten them up and adopt them out. They and the Mom were wild, feral looking things.  Couldn't get close to any of them.  Then July came and 117% temperatures, would surely kill them. They would hide in a space between the shed and the house, so we got the hose out and put it on one end and a cat carrier on the other end.  One by one they came running out right into the carriers.  Spitting, hissing, bouncing all over, it was horrible.  There just was no other way to capture them and it was blazing hot and the kittens were just barely old enought to be weaned.  Mom looked like death and kept barely alive  eating a lizard or small bird now and then until we found her that is.   How she fed 4 kittens is beyond me.  Anyway, we bought a big pet crate and got the kittens in it and kept it in the laundry room.  Everyday, we'd go in and feed them, water them, etc.  They hiss and spit and we didn't let that stop us, reach right in and pick them up by the scruff of the neck and hold them and pet them and put them right back.  We did this for a month, pretty soon they started acting a bit like normal kittens but still a little wild.  We couldn't get mom in and finally had a trap brought over.  We traped her, took her to the vet, got her spayed and came back home.  She stayed outside for months looking through the window, watching her kittens play but would not come in.  Finally after months, she and her kittens are all together in the house, well adjusted, loveable, don't know what I would do without them in our life.  So much for adopting them out. We think the mom got pregnant and the owner just booted her out or dumped her off or she ran away not wanting to go back there when she had her kittens.  She is still a little skiddish a year later, but improving all the time.
