Shift - Book by Gary Keller, Jenks, PapasanReal estate is local but sometimes we have to leave our local area to learn how to work. The Keller Williams Mega Camp in Austin offered just such an opportunity last week, and I travelled from Albuquerque to Austin to take advantage of it.

MegaCamp was informative and motivating. It was all about Shift - the Keller Williams book  on how to approach the shift in the market and how to shift gears, so to speak. Getting together with some four to 5 thousand people to analyze the current real estate market and hear Gary Keller's interpretation of how to approach the market was helpful.

It wasn't only the Mega Camp sessions that provided insight, but also the quick trip I took to the LBJ library.  I visited on Tuesday afternoon when I had a few hours free. I toured the exhibitions, talked with the docents and was invited to return the following day for the celebration of LBJ's 100th birthday. Sadly, I had to return home and could not accept the invitation.

But the visit was instructive. The events of the exhibits and displays reminded me of the huge shifts made by the USA since the days of LBJ's presidency. The country confronted some difficult times, had to make tough decisions and made them. under LBJ's leadership. No one could argue that the country is not now better off than it was, despite current problems. The country is  not perfect  now, but better,  just as  the real estate market will never be perfect but ew hope better.

I met some wonderful colleagues  and formed some great freindships. I returned home motivated encouraged, and armed wwith a new resolve to shift with the market. Sitting down with people of like mind to seek solutions to common problems can be invigorating.  I recommend reading Shift for anyone who hopes to be ready to shift into high gear when the market shifts upward again.

Hi Eloise, I didn't get a chance to meet you, but I was there.  I got a few "ah ha's" and will be looking at my listings for pictures, plants, paint, furniture and fixtures each and every time!

Cindy- Happy to hear you were there and had some ah ha's also. We should have blogged about it, except that I may have missed any discussions because I was off blogging for a while. Interestingly, I was at a booth and someone who remembered me from a family reunion came up to say hi. How nice!

George- I am sure I will keep referring to the Shift, especially if the market doesn't shit upwards. I think you would find it interesting reading if you can get your hands on it.

Jennifer-it is always refreshing to takd a break and get away even for a day. This time, I did not connect with any one from AR but I could feel rainers around me. One presenter mentioned AR as a recommended platform for blogging. AR is always mentioned in a positive light at meetings and conventions.
