Those that know me know that I love the game of golf for many reasons.  Today I witnessed one of the most amazing feats in golf I have ever seen (sorry Tiger) and I have been watching professional and amateur golf since the early nineties.

One of my favorite current golfers is Vijay Singh from the island of Fiji.  Vijay is known for his incredible work ethic. He practices his golf swing and  exercises relentlessly. He is currently 45 years of age, an age when most professional golfers are thinking more about the champions tour, not competing against and winning tournaments against the top players in the world that are in their twenties.

Vijay is known as one of the best ball strikers on tour, second only to Tiger Woods in that category.  The one thing that has plagued Vijay the last couple of years has been his putting which has been inconsistent. Inconsistent putting has kept Vijay from winning even more tournaments.  Before the Deutsche Bank Championship started a few days ago Vijay said he was blocking out all the negative comments made about his putting over the past year and was repeating to himself "I am the greatest putter in the world".  He kept telling himself and his caddie this each day of the tournament and repeated it many times today on the course.

Vijay became a putting machine!  Today alone he sank breaking putts of 35 feet and 60 feet!  Sergio Garcia who played with Vijay said it was the most amazing display of golf he had seen and that no one can ever know just how good Vijay played today. Vijay not only won the tournament but also broke the course record!

Vijay won his second tournament in two weeks and earned another $1,260,000 and became the leading money leader for the year and increased his lead in the Fed-Ex cup standings.  He won today by an amazing 5 strokes over his nearest competitor, beating several world ranked players in their twenties.

Last week Reece Mack wrote the amazing blog Do You Want To Achieve Success? I'll Let You in on A Little Secret... which spoke about the power of visualization.  I know of many cases in which Realtors and other individuals have used visualization to achieve amazing success.  Elaine Northrop from Maryland used visualization in the nineties to surpass one million dollars in commissions in one year and buy a condo in Florida that had gone into contract with another buyer hours before Elaine decided to buy it. Elaine took pictures of the condo and "Saw her family having Thanksgiving Dinner" in that condo.  A month or so after Elaine returned to Maryland she received a call that the sale fell apart.  Elaine purchased the condo and her family had Thanksgiving dinner in their Florida condo that year!

Stop listening to all the negativity about the current housing market.  Tell yourself "I am the Greatest Realtor in the World" and beleive it!  Write it down and paste it on your bathroom mirror.  Repeat it to yourself throughout the day.  Convince yourself that you are the best Realtor and go get what is yours!

Conceive it, believe it, Achieve it!
Elaine Northrop

Thanks for the blog.

Very good info and I hate the media telling about all the bad around the country. People are coming into town and thinking they are going to pick up a home $10-50k under list. I wake up in the morning thinking I'm the best, but by the end of the day very questionable. It was a good tourney to watch when I could.

Tracy - Tiger is awesome but you should have seen this display of golf today and by Vijay saying to himself he is the greatest golfer in the world he dominated his field of top players in their twenties. Don't forget the message I have here for all Realtors Tracy!

Abiud - Amen my friend!

Bob - Keep telling yourself you are the best!

Jason - Thank you but this isn't all about Vijay...this is about all of us changing our thinking!

Hi George!

I just posted a blog earlier tonight on How to Increase Your Sales  Practically Instantly.   I had some comments that spurned some new conversation on the topic---and I just mentioned the plus side of doing business on the golf course!  The 'Old Boy Network' has expanded to a number of women golfers, who now, just like the men, are doing business while enjoying chasing the elusive white ball.

Glad you enjoy the game so much, and as we all learned Tiger is a product of his Dad's positive thinking!  Visualize it and it can happen!

Tiger is not the only one who has been successful at visualizing his chosen end result--so I strongly support it!  Besides sales and writing, I also happen to be a hypnotist and have worked with many people to help them positively identify their future and rid themselves of the fears that have kept them from achieving what they are truly worth.

I applaud your determination and look forward to reading about you on the top!

Best wishes-

I read somewhere that a psychiatrist took 40 of his patients.  He told all of them to say to themselves 10x a day, " I am loveable and acceptable just the way I am,"  He said he asked them to do this for 3 months.  He said at the end of the 3 months he could tell you exactly who said it and who didn't and they admitted to it too.

I think it helps people to build confidence in themselves and not depend on other people for it.

George - I was lucky to be able to see the second round of this tourney on Saturday at TPC Boston. Vijay hit a ball over the 10th green that rolled right past me, and a minute later I was standing two feet away from him and Sergio Garcia. My brush with fame (I could have reached out and touched him. I know, it's dorky but I'm a fan of golf and was suitably starstruck)! I'm a big fan of his too and it was neat to be standing right there while he hit a brilliant shot back onto the green to save par.

Hi George, A great message and sorry I missed the tournament. Being a Tiger fan i sort slacked off when he went for the year.

Vijay is an amazing golfer and several others also come to mind as well But I like the message about visualization and believe in it strongly. Now If I could just visualize getting 10 wonderful subject for the week so I can post this week, :-) Honestly, I hit a dry spell and it is like pulling teeth to get something worthwhile out there.

I think I need to visualize being inspired again. So I guess tonight that is what I will work on. Thanks for the reminder.

George, visualization sounded hokey to me at first, but it works. For the skeptics all is takes is one time of seeing in your head the results you want until they become a reality. I got a formal dining room table back years ago, by cutting out a photo of it, putting it on my frig, and seeing it everyday. That one thing convinced me.

Great article!  I heard small references to the greater putter bit during the tournament,  but I did'ny know what it was all about.  I think one ofthe commentators said he was without a doubt ' the best putter is Figi'.  I wondered if he could get away with that.  At any rate , I really love golf as well,  and I will look for more golf posts in the future; and thank you for explaining this for me.  Joe

George -- there are many people who have written about the importance of visualization ... one of the first was Shakti Gawain who wrote Creative Visualization many years ago.  Also, Thomas Tutko and Umberto Tosi in California wrote a book called Sports Psyching- which many major sports teams and individuals have used as a guide for many years.  I think both books are available on Amazon and they are well worth the read.

I tend to live by this rule day in and day out.  My husband, who is also in sales needs to be reminded periodically.  When he's having a bad month his demeanor when he walks in the front door at home is "intensely negative" and I have to tell him to take a step back and look at the image he is presenting.

Hi George: I'm always amazed at how easy those golfers make it look!  Staying positive and seeing yourself as a success and being successful is very important today in my view.  So many times I get people looking at me like I'm a "Dead Man Walking" because of my profession.  They expect me to agree with them...but I'm not going for that trap.  Sure business is harder this year but it's going to by one of my best years in the business.  For that to happen, I have to stay positive!

George,

Thanks for the inspiration. the market is tough right now, thats for sure. I am a mortgage guy and I have never seen such a difficult time in this industry. Of course I was feeling good for just being able to survive this market but I have felt the pinch and seen my income decline slightly with regard to my year over year figures.

I used to use visualization alot but have since fallen into the traps of watching the media and feeling the doom as the housing and mortgage markets collapse around me. Thanks again for this bit of inspiration as I am going to start telling myself that I am "The Greatest Mortgage Professional In The World!" and I am going to continue to forge ahead!

Hi George - visualization can be one of the most powerful tools in anyone's arsenal, if they just choose to use it and believe.  I do the 'one minute salesperson' technique before just about every appointment I have, especially before a listing appointment.  As long as I've been in real estate, I still get a bit nervous before each appointment - visualization techniques help tremendously for me.

I love what you shared about Vijay and what he says - we can all take a tip or two from him and others like him, like Tiger - always striving to be better and their self-talk is a lesson for all.

Thanks for sharing,

George,

The power of affirmations should not be overlooked.  I recently was watching a ustream of Gary Vaynerchuk and in his chat room someone asked, do you follow so and so (some social media expert).  He said no he doesn't really watch anyone else's shows.....not that he doesn't have respect for others, or aware of others, but he concentrates on what he does well.
