What do you think about Realtors with a second job ?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Tremblant

I was responding to Huiting Zhuang blog about part time Realtors, what else do you do? and I then decided to speak about my past efforts and errors. So I decide to integrate my response on my blog.

When asking about real estate before becoming a Realtor, the only honest answer I got from most brokers was "you need to have enough money to cover your personal and professional expenses at least for a six month period". Well I was lucky, the company I was working for paid me to leave ;) so I did!!! The error I made is to move 2 hours from my present location to the one where I was born. After a divorce I thought that it would be easier to do business near my family and friend.

Well I was wrong, first consequence is that I had to start from scratch and I did the same error a few time thinking that the next area would be easier. So finally I had to get a second job, but it was not a Hobby like Huiting was peaking of, but a real boring JOB, a crappy job with a low salary. First I was getting the news paper and other magazines from the distributor late in the evening, then making my route at night, making bundles for shipping later early the next morning clients. You can't imaging doing know papers at -22° F.

Then I was a security agent on the night shift to be able to paid for my real estate fees and all the rest a person must pay like a rent and food! I realized I was wasting my time, like I saw most part timers loose money as Realtors I made the decision to triple my efforts to get out there and list, that was how I kept myself from drowning in dept. The other "stupid" decision I made was to move return from where I was and where I still am living. Now I starting to get known and finally making a living!

Now I understand, I just can leave the area, I fell I love with a girl (that I divorced, I don't regret any steps of the way) but I also fell in love with the area, the people and there culture.

So now I prefer being a 100% real estate, I don't mind trying other options, but it must be around real estate and in second place after being a Realtor.

Success will come if you combine your efforts in the same direction, don't do like I did trying all kind of businesses, thinking that one will work soon!!!
