First, I apologize to the Long Beach, MS Government and other workers because I did not think the curfew applied to me. When I started out I was just going to walk around the block. Then I became obsessed, and kept walking. I admit it was very windy. I rationalized that I grew up in North Texas and was therefore, used to strong wind.

I had not realized what a difference a few blocks North or South could make in the strength of the wind. About a block and a half from the beach I realized I was wrong for getting out. So, I stopped at my favorite neighborhood FSBO to chat awhile.

He gave me the low down. We are definitely not allowed to go on the beach (I did not go on the beach). He said the water had crossed HWY 90 and was about half way up the first street.

All that he was aware of were a few boats that didn't hold to anchor and ended up on the highway. He thought I could make it a little further without getting a citation and recommended that I photograph from the K-Mart Katrina slab.

I followed his directions.

These photos actually look a little boring. The wind was too strong to get any closer. For me--that say's, it wasn't only strong--it was downright scary.

It appeared one of Long Beach's finest was heading my way. About that time my favorite FSBO came out and started chatting with the patrol car that had been approaching me. So, I took this as my cue and started walking fast. Well, not so fast... I wan't moving very far in the wind.

I had been turning down rides--because my objective was to walk. It would take me forever to get 1/2 mile in this wind. So, I walked a little further and another vehicle stopped to ask if I wanted a lift. Perfect timing!

The Guardian Angels were out! I didn't know we had official Guardian Angels in Long Beach! Let me introduce you to Christopher Findlay, the Operaction Director for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of the Guardian Angels, and Richard ..... (sorry, I didn't catch your last name).

As I was getting out of the car (I told them just to drop me at the corner), Christopher asked my name to put into his log book. The minute I said, "Gravenstuk", Richard's eyse lit up. (How many Gravenstuk's do YOU know? :-) . Come to find out Richard knew my son and daughter. He had changed schools so they had lost contact.

Then we decided to have fun with Luke, Miles and Skye... I invited him in.  The shock appeal was worth the entire trip.  I can't think of anything more fun than surprising your teenagers... I admit, it had been a boring day for them. They were under curfew!
