I've written two blogs about the fleas in this REO house!  Yesterday I went to the house after stopping at the Dollar Store and buying 3 flea bombs.  I wore my shorts, sprayed my legs and timidly tread through the house to set the bombs off.  I put one in the hall, one in the dining area and one in the kitchen.  Then I fled!! As Steve Smith said, "Get the HEdoubleL out of there!"  (That Steve is so creative.  If you haven't been to his blog, visit it.)

In the yard were some kids whose grandmother lived next door.  They were familiar with the house.  These were teenagers, afraid of nothing, adventurous!  I asked if they wanted to go in the house with me.  They quickly backed off and said they were NOT going into that house.  They said there was a little child who'd lived there along with all the animals and fleas.

DHS.....where are you?  Isn't it pretty bad for a child to have to live in these circumstances?

I went back to the house this morning and stuck my white sheet in.  Nothing.  Go another room, test with the sheet. Nothing.  Another room......oops!  There they were jumping all over the sheet and me!

So today the licensed exterminators went in to spray for the 3rd time.  A solid spray that covers the whole floor!  Plus bombs, I think.  The REO owner at least said that I shouldn't put it in as a listing until it is prepared and canceled the listing.

On my way back to the office, I picked two of the little pests off me.  Being unable to crush them I just opened the window and threw them out.  Have you ever heard the saying, "Why she wouldn't hurt a flea." Well, that's me.  They are out there on a main street trying to hitch a ride!!

Barbara,,, I totallly feel your bites! Get the pests gone professionally and then have them treat the yard as well. You can bring them in on shoes and pants so it's not just the house that needs treating..good luck..gotta go..I"m starting to itch!

Pardon my ignorance, but not being in the business:  What is an REO house?

Holly, I didn't like it when I called the specialist and he groaned....actually groaned....and said fleas are a problem to get rid of.  And it has proven true.  Thanks for commenting.

Anita, I apologize for the real estate related blog when I should be doing those great old photos.  REO house is a foreclosure property and lots of times I'll do them for members only.  In this case, I thought it might not hurt anyone to read how bad fleas can be.  Thanks for reading and commenting.

Barbara, I know both fleas and ticks have to be knocked down over time cause of new eggs hatching. Not an easy problem to solve by any means. Good luck.

Charles, it could be another "People are Funny".  Remember that old TV show?  I got in my car today, looked down on my leg, and there sat a flea!  He was waiting for me to get back in that car.  He waited all night.  I smashed that one.  There's just no telling where they are lurking.  It's worse than Steve's critters who watch him all the time.

Gary, how much time?  Years, days, weeks?  I'm becoming impatient.  And that child or children who lived there are still in the same situation in another house probably.  Well, maybe the animals keep them collected and off the humans.

Barbara, one time I went to Steve's house and there was this pile of squirrels in the back yard and at first I couldn't even find him:)

Barbara - Wow! What an ordeal.  I hope the exterminators can get rid of them for good.  BTW, if a flea jumps into my car while I'm on the highway, I'll blame you...  :)

Charles, were they dead squirrels or alive ones?  And what about the raccoons?  If I had one of those things to fling in the house, as you suggested with the sheep, they'd run out with all fleas on them and I could market this house.

Debi, stay away from Searcy AR because they are out hitching rides!

Your account of flea infestation reminds me of when our dog, Trischka, died at 14. We had treated her for fleas with baths etc. and  had not noticed any in our family room where she had her favorite resting spot. When she was no longer there as a host, flea hell broke out.  Those suckers were evident  especially around her spot. It's amazing that we hadn't been bothered with fleas as long as she was around.
Anyway, a few bombs took care of the problem.

"She wouldn't hurt a flea"  Ha! Barbara, you're quite a comedian.

Thanks, Don and Paula.  I guess you were unable to upload the photo.  This makes me feel better about the kids who lived there.  As long as the animals are around, fleas on the children may be minimal.  Keep having fun up there in that blissful spot!

Barbara, (I love it when Steve is away) how about we just throw Steve in the house?

Barbara,

Bombing will not get rid of those fleas. You have to spray the entire floor 2-3 times with any bug spray with permetrin. that is the only thing I could find to get rid of the fleas in a house I manage.

Charles, I'll open the door if you'll shove him in!  LOL

Mike, now you tell me!  I'll have to check and see what the bug man sprayed with.  This is the third time for the spraying.  I never dreamed they could be such a problem.  Thanks for your help.

Barbara - Yuck, those fleas tried to hitch a ride with you! You should have taken them to the flea market and got rid of them once and for all!

OK, Barbara, you're making me do this. Here, read this:

It's the permanent way to get rid of fleas and it works! Don't throw away money on these scumbag outfits . . .

Elizabeth, thanks for the tips.  I guess I can't imagine having to deal with fleas all the time in a personal house!  My momma said to keep animals outside and I guess I was brain-washed early.  With these directions on combing out the fleas, etc., I love my momma more for the advice!

The house I'm battling is empty.  A lady came and cleaned it yesterday and she said she saw no fleas but when I went in to check, there were fleas still in it.  Course, fleas love me!  They smell me coming.  They jump for glee and land right on me.

That's one nice blog site you have!  You are SO famous!!!

Elizabeth, that's great to know.  Your getting a small royalty would be nice!

Mary, I don't like them either.  I have welts everywhere!  They've cancelled the listing again until I can get it fixed.

Wouldn't hurt a flea?  Those little guys totally creep me out!  Luckily, my little furry housemates have been flea free.

Patricia, I've had a change of mind.  I'd kill every one of those blood-sucking fleas that I could.  My ankles are so itchy and my imagination runs wild thinking I have them inside my clothing.  Awful!

After you go into a house with fleas start up your car and stand behind the exhaust. The exhaust gases will get the fleas off.

Barbara, I have not yet had the pleasure of a flea infested house for a listing, sounds like you could have a second career in extermination... yet another Realtor skill unexpectedly required to sell a house.

Don, thanks for telling me that.  I may need it sometime so I'm going to file it away in my head!

Mary Strang, this is an REO and you never know what you'll find.  If it were someone's personal house, I'd walk away!

Fortunately we have not had to deal with this situation with any of our listings so far, but if we do, I have no problems hurting as many as I can!
