North Jersey native and College Basketball broadcastinglegend - Dick Vitale - is to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Vitale, who is 69 years of age, was born in Passaic NJ, and grew up in what was then East Paterson - now Elmwood Park NJ. His coaching experience started in NJ first as head basketball coach of Garfield High School and later East Rutherford High School. He later joined the college ranks as an assistant at Rutgers University then became head coach at the University of Detroit and later head coach of the NBA Detroit Pistons.

But Vitale's "fame" came after his coaching career came to an end. As an expert college basketball announcer and commentator for ESPN, Vitale became a "PTPer" - his phrase for Prime Time Player. For college basketball fans, "Dickie V" is probably the most recognizable faces and voices on the planet. Known for his vibrant, loud, and emotional personality and his unique catchphrases such as "diaper dandy" and "awesome baby with a capital A", Mr. Vitale is truly a North Jersey classic.

So we salute you, Dick Vitale, on your accomplishments and your Hall of Fame honors. You've made North Jersey proud!
