Active Rain Invite Status

"The pictures in your mind becomes the stories of your life."
Cody Bateman

I've been a National Sales Manager for OPEX Corporation, an international manufacturing company based in Moorestown, NJ, so I bring something to the table.

Here's how it works:

(1) What you think shapes the words you say, and (2) our words create images in our minds.

Stick around for the lesson.  I promise it can change your outlook.

Let's use my record in inviting people to join Active Rain as the example.  (The sales manager in my mind tells me I'm not doing such a good job at this.)  After all, in the year or so since I found this great community of bloggers...

  • I've only invited 77 people to join Active Rain.
  • while Jeff Wilhems (Tucson, AZ) has sponsored 637 people into the AR Community(True!)
  • Two thirds of my invitations were totally ignored.  (I'm just no good at sales.)
  • I've only sponsored 29 people.
  • Only four of them are taking it seriously.

That's the way most of us look at our accomplishments.  "I'm not so good at this."  "I should probably do something else."  "I'm not successful like so and so."

So we paint mental pictures of our reality.  We examine those pictures, and talk to our friends about them.  Pretty soon, discouraged, we quit and start all over again with something else.

Rewind the tape and start over!  "The pictures in your mind becomes the stories of your life."

AR Invite Success by Mike in TucsonLet's use different colors for the chart.  (Colors affect our perception, and as you've heard before, perception is reality.)

  • Four of the people I've brought into AR have done a fantastic job at blogging and participating here in Active Rain.
  • Those four account for 2,490 of my AR points!  (Newbies, you get 10% of the points your invitees generate.  Think of it as passive income you didn't have to work for.)
  • 25 others have started out of the gate, and have contributed another 1,406 points to my multi-level marketing scheme.
  • 48 never saw the value.

Since this is working so well for me, I'm going to spend some time today...

  • commenting on the blogs of my four "Stars."  They're making me successful, after all.
  • coaching the top two or three people in that group of 25 who "get it."
  • inviting new people to join the Active Rain Real Estate Network.  I'm looking for more "Stars."
  • painting a new picture in my mind.

"The pictures in your mind becomes the stories of your life."

Mike, I also have invited several people to Active Rain and a few have joined but none of them blog.  Good advice here.

I have invited 7 people.  All have joined.  Only 1 or two have blogged.  The picture is in your mind.  We all have failures and Abe Lincoln was the best of them.  He didn't quit, nor should we.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! You can take this principle and apply it to anything you do. We are limited by our humanity...but God has given us the human ability to accomplish much when we determine our goal and work for it. GREAT STUFF!! GBU!

Mike - great post about how you change looking at things (I recently changed my outlook after a Tony Robbins lecture). I have also invited people, and have been totally ignored. And then, I know of at least two that joined on their own . . .

You right, positive thinking gets positive results. I had some clients that told me bad  things always happen to them and they were right, but only because of the spin the put on the situations.

Oh, in regards to the people not joining activerain... that is a result of their negativity not your salesmenship.

Mike,

Interesting post. It brings a couple of things to mind.

1. Despite the percentages, we are still here and feel like we are reaping a benefit that outweighs the time spent. Will it translate to solid referrals? Only you know that.

2. It begs the question: How driven are you? If you knew upfront that from all of these invites, you would get 4 people to be involved on AR, would you do it all over? 4 Sounds like a small payoff but it is how the mortgage business works (and any sales for that matter). One person (or deal)at a time. In the last 18 months, I have met over 600 realtors in town by going to their open houses. If I knew up front what percentage of them would actually give me an opportunity, would I have gone through all of that work? Yet, I continue to do it... I don't have to tell you to keep it up. I could place wagers in Vegas on the fact that you are going to persist. Well done!

Patrick,

I appreciate your comment.  Would I do it all over in a heartbeat?  You bet!  Persistence pays off.

So true Mike! Focusing on the positive and being a happy person also makes others want to be around you.....they want to be happy too. I have invited several but no takers....yet.

Good info Mike. I too have invited quite a few people. Though some have joined, only a few have managed to write anything. I think it takes a certain adventurous type... one who can stick with it long enough to earn a client. After that it's more smooth sailing.

I guess I have had a different focus and I have invited personally but not been direct enough. I'll try harder.

The joy of sharing, coaching, teaching...whatever term you wish to use isn't measured by a ratio or percentage.  Some people just want to eat the fish you give them while a few wonder how you came by it and the joy is watching them learn to catch their own (and share some newfound lures along the way)!

Mike,

I have to do a better job of inviting people and not get so down on myself when people do not accept the invitation to join.  I think I am going to set a goal and move from there.  Thank you sir.

Mike, Once again you're right on the money.  Our thoughts can guide us right down the negative road, if we'll let them.  Going positive is the only way to go.  It changes everything.

Mike,

I completely agree with your numbers.  I'm a big AR cheerleader and have ended up w/29 members invited.  Of those several didn't know how to activate their accounts so I didn't get any points and I have 3 stars! Just 3 - It's amazing to me how so many people are intimidated about blogging and the possibility of gaining new business!

To me it's like riding a bike - you start with training wheels, surround yourself with a few knowledgeable people, and evlove over time to the road bike and a long journey on a path to success!

Mike, I love that quote.  It has applications to so many things we do in our business and certainly gives form to the directions we choose to take in life.
