This is slightly off "real estate" topic, I suppose it depends on who you are and what you look for in a community.
With all this hoopla about Hanna it makes me realize just how lucky we southern women are when it comes to our male counterparts.
No offense my northern friends. I have met several northern men with southern hearts and we count that just the same:).
Back to the point....
Here in Beaufort we are so blessed with the charm of the stately oaks, the blissful breezes off the Atlantic, panoramic views that impress even the most discerning eye, and of course...our men.
There is a certain calmness that us women enjoy in the midst of the storm. We are so very fortunate to defer the worry to our strong, capable, and willing southern gents.
They will be there, all of them. The marines, the fishermen, the contractors, the tomato farmer, the law enforcers, and the fathers.
It doesn't matter if they are your husband, boyfriend, neighbor, or family member. They will be there for you when the winds of life get a bit difficult. They will board up your home, stock your pantry, service your vehicle, and sweetly say " Darling, it is gonna be alright."
Now that is reassuring words my friends.
I admit, my southern roots don't necessarily make me the submissive type, however, I am quite content with taking the back seat on this one.
These gents don't enjoy the gratitude they deserve and are often dismissed due to their slow speech, camouflage wardrobe, gentle ways around the women, and their flare for everything outdoors but I assure you, when you are in a quandary whether it be hurricane winds or transmission problems, there simply is no better sight than a southern man walking your way.
They may not always be able to properly coordinate their Sunday best, and they may come home smelling of fish, pine trees, and sometimes even a little whiskey they dried desperately to hide but thank goodness they always come home.
So here's to you (or better yet, yall) southern men. We are grateful and so very lucky.
