I met a new agent today, full of hope and promise. Another agent asked her why she decided to sell real estate? She replied that she loves meeting new people and always wanted to try her hand at selling homes. She also needed a little extra money for her household.

The other agent asked her if she was aware of Florida's real estate issues? She replied she was, but older agents need to be more positive about the market and stop complaining about buyers and sellers. I was thinking if she was driving down the street what sign was she heading for?

More people need to have positive attitudes just like that. In todays market having a pity party every other day does no one any good at all. Thanks, Keith

Just be glad she didn't want to "try her hand" at being a dentist, or doctor, or CPA, or any other profession that we all attempt to find the "best" in what they are.

Until we upgrade our standards there will always be those that are half willing to commit time, energy, money or higher levels of education to this business. It is too easy to get into and too easy to get out of.

Shame on the brokers that are willing to accept the mediocre in their brokerage and our business, hoping they will make it, rather than knowing they will make it.

That is why so many of us are just a step above used car salespeople.

Interesting -- a lot of people do enter the biz for the "social experience" of it all (!!!!), but it is a business, just like any other, and it's important to understand the basics of all business, in order to be successful.

It is a shame that we have to defend ourselves everyday because of the "agents" that sell real estate "on the side".  At least she didn't say "I love looking at homes and really like going to open houses!"

I firmly believe that this is a great time to get into real estate.  Those just entering have to learn how to fish unlike getting into a hot market and not learning how to sell.  This market is the best opportunity to gain market share and those agents, new or old, that are hustling are the agents that will get their fair share or unfair share, however you want to look at it.  I came into real estate in June of 06 in Florida and have moved myself into one of the top listing and selling agents in our board.

Darin...

You already know where I stand on this frustration issue. I had a medical test the other day and the doctor told me to only drink clear liquids so I chose vodka.

Thanks to everyone,

It is surely a challenging market for a newbie!
