Quick Thinking for a 6 year old

By
Title Insurance with Pioneer Title Agency

My 6 year old hates to clean as I'm sure all 6 year olds do. He always comes up with an excuse why he can't here's the top 3 reasons:

  1. My back's brokenI'm too old...my bones hurt
  2. Mom....I'm just so tired
  3. My back...My back I think it's broken

He's generally rubbing his back or holding his head in his  hands for sympathy as he says these things. Yes, he's quite the character! We just love to laugh at him....he's always got something new and funny to say although it can be frustrating when we're trying to get him to do something (he thinks we're real slave drivers). So here's the latest in a string of excuses.....

The scene: 7:00 a.m. Sunday Morning......

Him: "Mom, let's play cowboys and Indians"

Me: "OK but first we need to play clean the bathroom"

Him: "Let's play the shut-up game instead"

A.J. & I laughed so hard it hurt. He really did come up with it that quick and I was so stunned that I almost missed it. I taught my oldest the "quiet game" when he was young.....apparently the name has changed but the meaning is still the same.....You've got to admire this kid's wits.

Your son is so adorable. Yes kids will say the darnest things. Looks like he thinks on his toes. That will be a great personality trait when he grows up. Keep up the good work!

He is too cute!  The excuses will only get more creative.  I have two teenagers, I know.

What a Sweetie!   I am amazed when I hear my words coming from my daughter's mouth, especially when she edits them a little and makes them her own (she is nine,  look out!)

Have a Terrific Day!    Laurie

It sounds like he would fit in well with my son, who is nine, and my daughter, who is seven, both of whom are very quick-witted as well.  I am going to include this post in the Family Ties group recap today.

He is very cute.  The excuses will definitely not go away...there are so many other much more important things for kids to do than clean.

That is really funny.  Kids do bring an extra special honesty that at times is hard to not fall over laughing at.

My son just turned six. Your son is very cute and witty. Our mouths hang open around ours often! He thinks of the most witty things to say! His new thing when he wants candy, I am starving to death!

JL- yes they certainly are great for that!

Melody- Ahh the teenager battle of wits....I have two nieces that I'm practicing on right now.

Laurie- Yes the edited versions are always the best!

Jason- thanks for including me in the recap!! Yes I've been reading about your 3 and it sounds like he would fit right in.

Scott- I keep telling them to stay little.....they just won't listen!

Chastity- No I don't believe that these excuses are going to disappear anytime soon. Believe me I've no clean queen......there are more important things then having a spotless home (like spending time with family) but when it gets too bad it's time to whip out the bleach and get down to business.

Eric- That honesty has had me rolling too many times to count!

Nestor & Katerina- I've heard that on occasion myself but when asked if he wants dinner he generally says no just chips or candy! They are fun at this age aren't they?

Great story, my 7 year old has similar excuses.  Wonder where they here them from?  Certainly not from us. ;)

I absolutely love when my son says new things.  The show that Bill Cosby had a while back, 'Kids say the darndest things' was right on.  They are absolutely hilarious at times.
