This morning I woke up to find an AR Featured Post by Kathy McGraw, California whom I had the pleasure of working with by home staging her listing in Banning, CA.

Great post! You are so right about the increased use of Home Staging by realtors and our Active Rain Realtors really DO 'get it' I think!

As annoying and unrealistic as some of the HGTV shows can be (e.g. low budgets with a really BIG bang for 'the buck' not to mention the team of contractors who do all the work 'gratis'!), the good news is that they (HGTV) have raised the 'collective consciousness' of most people in our country. I would say that so many more sellers now understand that houses cannot only benefit from professional staging, but also that it is almost a necessity in order to sell a house in today's market.

I don't know about you, but I get a secret thrill when I hear sellers go on and on about how they know that they have to 'do this' or 'do that' because they've seen it on HGTV! It totally makes it easier on us when the client is open and receptive and understands that what we do is the 'norm' for selling a house in 2008.

BTW - I also got a 'secret thrill' to see that lovely quote from Laurie Mindich (Laurie Mindnich, New York who, by the way, is one AWESOME realtor - talk about 'thinking outside the box'! She and Sean are marketing geniuses when it comes to selling houses!).

Janice, What a great post and I loved the way you took the wonderful comments about the benefits of Home Staging. I know Realtors DO get it and I really believe if the market hadn't turned it would be a standard part of the selling process now. Unfortunately some people just don't realize (YET) the benefit of spending a few dollars to get that home SOLD.

What a great and positive post! It is nice to see that realtors are understanding about the Power of Professional Home Staging! Won't it be nice when all realtors are educated to the importance of staging their listings?

Janice- I left you a comment on my Post, but wanted to come here also......thank you again for the great job that you did. I had to change all my Internet Marketing Photos, but I sure like the newer ones better than the other ones. Now the home looks warm and inviting versus just a nice house. Yes, I too was pleasantly surprised at the comments on Staging. Remember any time something changes it takes a while for people to catch up :)

Oh and what is HGTV......sorry but I really don't watch TV :)

I totally agree with you that Realtor's "DO get it" now. :) Unfortunately the current market situation hasn't helped Realtor's to "sell" the concept of Home Staging since Seller's believe they can't afford to stage. Educating about the investment in Home Staging is the next step...instead of Price Reductions.

Isn't it great to see such positive feedback about Home Staging! I think Realtor's are understanding the importance of Home Staging.....they are just finding it hard to "sell" it because Sellers are upside down or barely profiting from a sale. It is our job to educate Sellers on the importance of the investment in Home Staging. :)

Great MLS pictures are so important in today's real estate market. Home Buyer's are now looking online instead of visiting Open Houses! The "warm and inviting vs. just a nice house" is exactly what was needed for this vacant listing!

HGTV is a home & garden channel that has tons of great shows about home staging, do it yourself projects, gardening, home buying.....etc. You're a Realtor and you love to garden....you should check it out! But be careful you might get hooked!

Janice - A pictures is worth a thousand words ... Sometimes a client just needs to see their homes from from a purchasers perspective in print.

I believe staging is here to stay though some areas (like mine) are very slow to embrace it.

Cynthia - I agree with you! Staging will become a norm for the Real Estate Industry. One day we will look back and say "Remember when we didn't stage homes...what were we thinking!" :)

I would love to have more realtors to work with. The feedback I get (through the Realtors that I do work with):

'Wow she is great, I'm going to use her when I sell my house!'

HUH? Did I miss something? Why don't they use me for their listings?! They do use a stager...just not me. Any insight in to that?

Dane - Thanks! The feedback was overwhelming! You're right...I need to get these testimonials on my website etc....

I too would also love to have more Realtor's to work with now. I think we need to help educate the Realtors on how to present Home Staging on their listing appointments. Better yet, I always suggest they bring me along as part of their team. I have had great success when that happens!

<sigh> We just need to keep knocking on the doors until they get it!
