Broker Bryant wrote about finding your passion. Teresa Boardman wrote about blogging being one big experiment.

I must, therefore, have a very passionate experiment.

My passion is working with seniors. I've chosen to dedicate the majority of my time working with seniors and their families during what is typically a very stressful time for the family...time to move mom and dad into a senior community or assisted living. We define ourselves by the roles we play in our community.  When a senior moves, it's not just a physical move.  Most often, it becomes an existential kind of crisis. My job is to help the senior and their family through that crisis. A tall order!

When I partner with other senior professionals to support the family, often the other senior professionals look at me, scrunch up their nose and say:

  • "How did you decide to specialize in working with seniors?"
  •  "How odd that a REALTOR specializes in Seniors"
  •  "I've never heard of a specialty like yours before!"

When I tell my colleagues in Real Estate about the services I provide for seniors, they too scrunch up their noses, cock their head to the side, and ask

  • "Why are you doing that?"
  • "How did you decide to focus on seniors?"
  • "Doesn't that keep you from selling houses?"

This is my passion and what gets me out of bed in the morning. I'm sure when people stumble across my blog RealSageAdvice they aren't sure what to make of it.  Is it a real estate blog? a healthcare blog? an aging issues blog?  The answer is Yes. It is a blog that tries to straddle the topics of real estate, aging issues, sandwich generation issues, and senior housing. It's a baby blog, and I'm not sure it will ever generate the traffic of some of the big bohemoeth real estate blogs like the Tomato, Selsius, Bloodhound, or St. Paul Real Estate, but it's my little corner of the world.

It's the little blog that could. It will just chug along and hope that is offers some hope, or some answers to a family who is in need of  those things during a trying time.

Does your passion drive you to do something out of the ordinary? Does your passion dare you to be different?

Lisa: I can think of at least five fans of what you do! You need not justify it to anyone, all issues that you mention in your post are important!
