I've posted this mostly for consumers.

Many have complained about the efficiency, speed and general usability of MLS.ca, namely that it's lacking.  Now, with www.realtor.ca, consumers can finally get the service they've been asking for. The mapping is amazing, and the speed vastly improved.

However, no one is really promoting the change. Yes, if you go to www.mls.ca, there is a bright red banner saying "click here" to get to the new, improved site. And, of course, it has been mentioned in various real estate mags (and I think on our message board a couple of times). No doubt, some research has been done to prove that running both sites for a while is the best way to help consumers adjust. Of course, I've never seen it done in any other industry but then, I'm not the expert. (feel free to comment on that observation)

In my experience, most consumers don't take the time to read all the banners on a website, no matter how large and colourful--especially if the look of the site hasn't changed that much. They're used to doing something one way and it's hard to make them change. I've been told by reliable consumer sources that if they can't get to listings within 5-6 seconds, they leave the site. I think the MLS gets better results than most REALTOR(R) sites, but will most consumers catch on that there is a better site to use?

Reps, tell your customers about www.realtor.ca. Consumers, switch your listing search allegiance to www.realtor.ca today; you'll be glad you did!

9 Comments on MLS gets MAJOR uplift with Realtor.ca

Are you out of your mind!!! You must be being paid to say that. Realty.ca is an atrocity. It's cumbersome, frustrating, totally inacurate and I'm sure it was designed inhouse by a total amateur. You are really putting your reputation on the line by promoting this inferior site.  You need to google " Goodbye mls.ca Hello Realty.ca" and check out the comments about this site there. I have personally changed sites to look for my home to more user friendly sites with privately listed homes because of all the flaws on realty.ca.  Mls.ca might not have been perfect but it beats the pants off Realty.ca.

Wow! I'd say Jill is annoyed. (enough to comment twice)

But apparently, she's not alone. Type "Goodbye mls.ca Hello realty.ca" into Google and you'll find a plethora of negative comments, including one or two from REALTORS(R).

However, in my own defence, read my post again. My comment was about how poorly mls.ca pointed people to the new realtor.ca site (realtor not realty by the way), not any sort of comment on its quality or usefulness.

In fact, I wouldn't know. I never used the mls and haven't used realtor.ca (though I will now to see if all the poo-pooing is true). My own website suffices for myself and all my clients thus far. If you're looking for a workable site, try it.

Jill is justifiably annoyed. Yes, mls.ca was far from perfect but the new realtor.ca site is a total disaster. I defy anyone to say it is easier/better to use than the old clunky site. The new one is impossible to navigate, impossible to effectively search, and takes forever to react. What a disaster!

Jill has every right to be upset.

MLS.ca was not perfect; but, it was vastly superior to this new abomination.  And, if realtor.ca is any indication of how realtor's can "help", our industry is out of touch with the market.  By associating ourselves with this new site we are doing ourselves a great disservice.  First and foremost - Google already has an online mapping program.  All you need to do is input a Postal Code and up comes the address.  It is free, fast, efficient, and when used in conjunction with MLS.ca is a great system.  CREA, clearly, does not understand the needs of their clients, with regards to access to information, nor the technology with which that information is relayed.

I liked the old site better.....the maping is helpful....the site seems to be trying to button-hole me into giving my personal info, so some realtor can access me.   I will contact the person on the listing if they have written a good ad which includes all the info and good photo's.  I judge the realtor by the quality of his or her ad.  If I don't like the ad, I call someone else for the information on that particular property.  Since I was here a few days ago....I can't access the site at all.   I have to agree with Jill and Greg.

See, I type in the City and Province and it says you have no properties available so you must have sold all 14 of the properties that I viewed on here yeasterday, in that town.

Charlotte Louise,

Sorry to hear you're having that kind of trouble. In fact, if you were checking my listings, I currently have only two. So if you saw 14 yesterday and none today, both days were wrong.

I'm going to try it myself again and see what happens. More later.

I'm really curious now. As a realtor, I have to acknowledge that all of your comments aren' just idle ranting; there must be something to your complaints.

However, when I try things, it seems to work; albeit no better than when it was mls.ca, but not particularly worse.

Can someone out there send me specific details of what you're trying to do on the site. I'd like to investigate and perhaps help to rectify some of these repeating issues. (If you don't want to do it publically, please send details to my email-I assure you I won't post your name).
