Computers verses verbal communication... which do you think is more efficient?

We are in the age of technology, but I wonder if it is really efficient?  I am presently working with a real estate company in Connecticut that I have never worked with before.  They do things differently, and maybe this is office procedure, or maybe I'm just not up with the times.  This company does everything on computers..emails, faxes, etc.  Never do they call.  This is fine, if a Realtor is around a computer or has email on their phone... which is a great assumption by this company.  If they mention that they work this way, at least I would have a heads up.

This is the agency I blogged about before that sent the resale/condo docs directly to my client... which he never got on time.. they assumed he did.. but never called me to see where things stood.  I never even knew they sent the package to my client until I called to see when we should be getting it.  This ended up being a big fiasco and if they just called me, it would never have come to this.. but I digress.

Well, yesterday we had the walk-through on the condo.. it is closing today.  There was some damage, and the listing agent was there for the walk-through too.  We asked for a credit at closing, and I was told I would get a CALL to get this settled before noon today.  Still nothing.  So, I checked my email.. which I wasn't planning on doing for a while.. other commitments are keeping me from doing so (getting my children to school on time).  But I had this nagging thought that once again they would use email verses the phone.  Sure enough they sent an email, last night.  The listing agent said they would CALL and they knew I preferred this way of communicating, so why didn't they call? Why is it that the phone is a difficult device for them to use?  Isn't it a lot easier to make sure that someone gets the message verses sending something into space?

I want to make sure everything goes smoothly for my client... like I try to do for all of them.  OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Valerie, you know how I feel about the use of e-mail verses the phone.  I  don't know why people complicate maters by just not picking up the phone.

George, I couldn't agree with you more.  I have another incident with this yesterday.  I think I will blog about it, instead of putting it here in the comment... hope you enjoy it.  You will be able to verify my timeline too.

Valerie - They definitely should've given you a heads-up first.  I think use of email and cyberspace will be increasing in our industry, but a courtesy phone call should not be forgotten...  :)

Debi... Yes, this age is becoming more and more technology driven.. but I don't think we should loose the comment courtesies as you mentioned.
