So do you offer help to your competition??? So many agents view other agents as COMPETITION... Why is it that we are all in a contest with each other rather than COLLEGES???

In the latest polls (and all that have come before them for years), REALTORS are rated in the bottom 5% of all professionals. This is because we do not treat or "profession" with respect. I say that if you know something that will help another agent you are really helping yourself. The better people feel about REALTORS, the better it is for us all.

Now, I am not saying that you should give away all your secrets (because I keep a couple to myself), but reach out, offer a helping hand (even if they work for a different Brokerage). Lets help each other and make our clients feel better about what we do.

Chances are you will close more deals with people from other companies. its best to maintain a good relationship than a bad one.

I invited someone to Active Rain in my office and talked with him about the business i've gotten off of blogging.  I'm about helping people but I like to see them pay it forward or help me with something that I dont know about.

And isn't it great to work with someone when you have the common goal of just getting it done.  I treat my competition the way I want to be treated.   We are all in this together.  You said it very well.  Good reminder.  Be nice to your Realtor..they could be the one to sell that house...that no one else tried to sell ......finally...even after a re-list

Hey Richard I agree

I try to lend a hand when possible - but I certainly cant give away all my secrets! Lets all help each other be more professional though - when possible.

In fact - I  might even tell you why I put my signature in all my reply's , not - that would be giving away a secret :)

Aloha, and have a great day

Hi Richard,

You bet I'd be willing to help another, for me it goes without question. If/when I'm called, I'm happy to assist in any way possible. If you're good, there's room and that door swings both ways in return. I've been helped by many others along the way.  Now if you ask me to do your work, well that's another situation.

I agree....call when the sign is crooked, let them know when the lockbox is broken or someone left the door open. Visit their open houses, if for no other reason than they need the attendance.  These are the usual reasons to cooperate, but there are lots of opportunities that are just day to day.

Richard, we work in an office where this is encouraged and practiced regularly, it is fairly common to have an newer agent ask questions and have two or three of the more experienced agents help them.  It sometimes works the other way as technology becomes more crucial older, more experienced agents asking for computer or cell phone help, it makes for a great work environment!  Thanks for posing this question!

I worked in an office where everyone was at odds and competing...not all of the agents, but a few...and now I work with a great comoany where everyone helps everyone out and floor time doesn't seem to matter.  We have floor, but if that agent is busy then whoever is there takes the laeds until the floor person is available.  All of teh agents share leads and pass listings back and forth.  This is my 3rd company and as a property manager I am usually very well disliked by everyone, but in this company the agents are so excited I am there.  There is a really strong comradery between all of us and it's great.  It benefits everyone when we work together.

Come on guys, what do you mean keep your secrets to yourself. It's when you share your secrets you are exposed to many many more. In fact, so many that you would probably forget or not have time to practise. It's true and I believe it. Here is a test for you.. of all the secrets you know about real estate...how many did you personally think up?
