FLORIDA WEATHER--AGAIN

By
Real Estate Agent with One Sothebys International Realty

The pastor of the church I used to attend would often say that Florida has two seasons:  the summer season and the sauna season.  That always got a chuckle from the congregation b/c it was an amusing way to describe, very aptly, this state's weather.  In September, however, I'd add that we also have the active hurricane season.   The local TV stations are abuzz 24/7 about the weather systems out in the tropics &  we're told when anything has formed near Africa!  The constant alarmist hype, while well-meaning, often has the unintended consequence of heightening anxiety among us homeowners & residents.  Inevitably, lines form at gas stations, grocery stores & the like as we prepare, once again, for a possible hit.

As we now fret over uninvited Hurricane Ike,  let's pray for a wind shear or cooling waters (from Tropical storm Hanna now over us) to dissipate Ike.  I'd rather deal with the hype than the aftermath.

Dalia,

Good morning. There's a "Traffic Jam in the Hurricane Highway"!!! And we are all guilty of "clicking" onto the latest Hurricane updates online...guilty of catching that latest weather report on the radio or TV. My kids are bummed out because next Wednesday is a Teacher work day so they're off just as the Hurricane is supose to be over us! They're telling me, "Gee, just when we're going to be off anyway!" One of them reminded me last night that they have not had a full week of school since it began 3 weeks ago...due to all of these crazy storms.

So, stock up on your canned goods, boxed goods...and HUNKER DOWN! Stay safe. And have a wonderful weekend.

Ike looks like it's going to be like Andrew.  I'm definitely a bit worried here near Disney.  We can't write or add insurance coverages when a named storm is nearby, so closings are on HOLD for a while.  Once the storms pass, the agencies will be soooo busy that insurance will take time AFTER the storms.

Fill up your tanks and test your generator!

I usually don't pre-fret over named storms on there way because they can change so rapidly, however I am scheduled to Fly out of Tampa Tuesday to visit Family in California, and now I'm getting ready to call my Vet/Boarder "puppy Bed & breakfast"  to see if they have an evacuation plan in place and what is it?? they are sitting in a flood zone ae and evac zone A.

I'm near Disney also Randall. I didn't take Hanna seriously, but IKE is a whole nother ball game. I have been through 3 major hurricanes and it is not a joke. I'm probably going to vacate.
