Oil PumpFinally, a mainstream news article that tells it like it is about buying insurance.  Although the article is written specifically for purchasing auto insurance, you can quite easily translate the advice into home insurance buying or any kind of insurance purchase for that matter.  The two most important points in the article in my opinion are:

1.) Insurance shouldn't be treated as a commodity like buying gas where you look for the best price no matter what.

2.) Always buy from a reputable agent who offers all lines of coverage.

I can't tell you how many prospects we come across who are only interested in price and pay very little attention to the details of the policy.  Too much is at stake come claim time.  Please remind your clients to get themselves the best insurance they can afford to carry.

The article can be read in its entirety here.

nice article. It is very sad when good people stick their head in the sand about their insurance because often it comes back to hurt them.

They definately need to know about the company and what they are buying, compare apples to apples.

Good article and I cannot agree more to have good automobile coverage. The Strength and rating of the Company is also very important.

I'm in a nightmare with my Son's car. He had several tickets and he had to go to an A rated Company to get affordable rates. They do not offer  "Stated Value" and although he had comp and collision coverage, when a Truck Driver totaled his parked car, the 13K he had put into his car restoration last year is not being covered by his own company or the other drivers. We put out 395.00 in getting an independant appraisal, submitted all receipts and the Other driver's Ins. Co. is doing nothing. They used illegal salvaged titles, auto's with no VIN or mileage and gave him 800.00 in value of the condition of his car. The final offer was less than his car in salvaged pricing. Yes, this is illegal, but they are doing it anyways. We have sent the matter to the Dept. of Ins. and they are awaiting a response from this "Large Carrier" His own Company that he pays 179.00 a month in Premium, basically said- it's not their problem, go through the other carrier who's at fault. The Dept. of Ins. cannot make them pay, they can place fines on the Company for their practices in the State of Ca. where they do business. Next step, Small Claims Court.

The accident was July 14th and almost 2 months now without remedy. Bad Insurance when every one depends so much on having a car is like throwing money away!
