The importance of Bilingualism today

Today ,more than ever everyone should have knowledge of a second language. They predict that by the year 2050 half of this nation will be Spanish speaking. Although many schools offer many different languages, the language which is going to produce the most growth and money is Spanish. Just search the television networks and you will see the largest viewing audience is Spanish speaking. This is a reason that people who want to learn a second or third language should begin with Spanish. It is incredible that there are still many places of employment including hospitals that do not have adequate bilingual staff. As a past school principal If I had a parent from Albania, Egypt or Chinese, I would look around until I found someone that could translate for these parents who needed to know so much about their chil'd education. Many place are still in denial and feel that other languages are just going to go away. Not at all; languages are part of many cultures and one cannot exist without the other. Unfortunately many immigrants so desperate to learn the English abandon their language in order to be accepted.Later on they regret that they did not insist for their children to keep speaking the language even if it just happened in the home. Many other cultures, learn the English while assuring that their children continue their cultural language in the home and during Saturday programs. If you travel to Europe you see the difference. The schools make sure students not only speak one but two languages. It better prepares them for tomorrows world. Despierta America y vamos aprender idiomas!
