Top Producer 8i - I Have To Eat Crow, And a LOT Of It

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Greenville Upstate

A few months ago, I wrote a blog espousing my joy at the long awaited arrival of Top Producer 8i. I was excited to get to start using it.  As a long time Top Producer 7i user, I just knew that 8i would make my life MUCH easier, and my business MUCH more productive.  As a smaller Rain Maker, I rely on technology to leverage myself as much as possible without adding staff until absolutely necessary (my assistant calls me the Puddle Maker right now, but it sounds more like a dog that's not housebroken).

Wow. Was I wrong. I have been TERRIBLY disappointed in TP 8i. The ease of use has gotten much worse, the navigating amongst the various items has degraded, and I am very sorry to have had my hopes up.

TP 8i seems very tough to navigate, and some of the items that were easily done in 7i now require more work.

I'm seriously considering leaving TP altogether now, but until I do, or until they shut it off, I'll be utilizing TP 7i.

Now I'm going to go pick these feathers out of my teeth...

Wow, I guess I'm glad I started with 8i so I don't know the difference. But I here the same thing around the office. Hopefully they will be making some changes.

Marie - that is true. I started with 7i, and I heard a lot of people complain about how difficult IT was.  I never found it so. Maybe I'm just so entrenched that it's hard for me to adapt.

I agree with th post...8i Is NO GOOD. We too are thinking about leaving it.  I use 7i to take quick notes down and advance out and it takes about 4 steps on 8i....what WERE THEY THINKING when they did this?

Chuck - were they thinking?  Perhaps that is the problem. It just seems that they threw something together and called it NEW and IMPROVED

Oh no!  I was promised, by the TP rep, that 8i would be "faster and easier to use".  Thanks for the heads up, Bill.  Guess I better stick with 7i for now.

Bill have you tried Brokers Helper? Its so easy to use that even I can do it. Tell them that Scott Barr sent you. Nooo I don't own stock in the company or anything like that. I'm just a garden variety Realtor helping out a fellow Rainer.

Scott, I'm willing to check it out. What's their website?

I could not agree more that 8i is an incredible disappointment. It is much more cumbersome than 7i was. One thing that has not been mentioned yet is that you cannot see a full screen while working with either plans or documents. Much time is wasted scrolling.

My subscription runs out in November and I am going to let it go.

I share your disappointment and amazement. I think this is another example of the tech and marketing people focusing on what they think will improve their product instead of checking with their customers. I emailed TP's customer service and marketing departments giving them my feed back and the feedback of others in our area. TP's response was exactly what you would expect from a bunch of people that think they know more than the customer about what's needed.

Having said all of that - my brother, Craig, is a certified TP trainer (even he resists using 8i). Craig is also an Agent Office trainer. He has implemented and tested both of these CMSs and two others that market themselves to the real estate industry. Even with all the downside, he thinks TP is still the best product out there.

We use TP for a lot of marketing in our Danville - San Ramon CA area. Agent Office is very weak in it's capacity to build and edit good marketing materials.

TP's biggest fault is it is sooooooooooo slow and cumbersome - something we are willing to live with in the short term - hoping that there is a least one person at TP that is listening to the customer. I think TP must have hired a bunch of former Microsoft coders that have expertise in bloating a program.

I hope you get at least 1000 comments to this and someone at TP gets off their butt and take emergency action to address the situation.

Given the hassle and frustration factor - I would give Top Producer maybe 1 star out of 10 for performance. In my opinion, TP is way over priced for what it offers - another case of pricing to support a large sales and administrative staff. It these yahoos would build an excellent product - they wouldn't have to pay so many people to go at their and sell it - we'd sell it for them!

I encourage you and everyone else to promote comments on this post so we can direct TP's attention here.

I also share in your frustration.  When I switched to 8i from 7i, it was because the pitch was that it will be soo much better.  While I think they had the right idea, the ease of use is just not there.  What used to take only a few steps now takes sometimes double.  I am hoping they are working on a new release soon that will resolve a lot of this...
