As Realtors(R), we are busy, what's in your fridge to help you and your family survive?

I for one on a slow day, prepare food for the day's that I know will be busy.  On a slow day, I prepare foods that will get me through the week.

I make a nice salad, a beautiful tuna salad, some potato salad. A nice eye round roast with some fresh gravy and some mashed potatoes (easy to reheat). I always have some fresh blanched asparagas, some cauliflower with a little Velveeta cheese and a small amount of butter/margarine.

The eye round can be sliced down for a nice sandwich, (fresh bread, a nice tomato, lettuce, onion if you like and mayo). The salad can be stored in a tupperware container or a plastic bag.

Meat loaf is another good choice as you can have that with some mashed potatoes as well..also easy to reheat. It is also a good sandwich ( a little mayo) on fresh bread, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese.

Soups are also a great alternative. Cooking down a chicken...you can freeze the chicken broth and add some noodles, some fresh corn (with some rivels 1 cup of flour with 1 egg)(drizzel it in to the broth and boil it for about 10 minutes until the dumplings form) or some rice.

If you cook a chicken down, save a little of the chicken, add a little celery and onion and some mayo for a great sandwich.

Healthy food is great as it gives you momentum.

Fruit salad is also a great option to prepare in advance. It's great to take with you in the car to snack on...I always have a thermal bag with snacks, plastic containers, and a few frozen bottles of water to keep the snacks cold.

Pretzels are a mainstay, they just keep you going.

Water is so important, as your customers, at least in the warmer climates are great when you see you customers are thirsty.

Cheese and cracker packages are also great as well as when customers fly in for a short visit and you are seeing lot's of properties in a short period of time, energize them.

Salty peanuts are sometimes welcomed and most of the time are not welcomed as they just make one more thirsty.

Sugar might also be necessary as sometimes you may have a diabetic customer. You might not know this ahead of time, however if they are and you need sugar to help them out, it's good to have some candy.

Smelling salts is good to keep on hand as well...just in case.

I still advocate that all Realtors(R) should have Basic Life Support. After all, you never know when you will need that.

There is nothing better than being able to save your customers.

Or if you have a Costco nearby, with a brand new kitchen, you will discover that they have all kinds of premade, fresh food.  Their roasted chicken is great also.  O.K.  I just announced to my family that I was not brought up to be a housewife.  After 20 years of cooking, this year is my SLOW year in cooking.  I envy your enthusiasm and wondful cooking!  Your family and clients are truly lucky! ....  :-)

Sylvia,

My family is grown and out of the home now. This is just how I choose to lead my life/work.

Karen Anne,

My children have been gone for 5 years...all college grads...I'm trying to help those that still have children at home and are still selling RE. I am single/divorced...still cook for my friends and neighbors...have many leads from doing this. Networking is the key.

Good planning. We are all over the home-made meatloaf and keep that sliced and frozen along with double baked and stuffed potatoes that are also frozen. Also frozen home made chili and "quick make things" like spaghetti sauce and such. We like to have a few of these "emergency meals" always ready for when things get so busy and we are starved and barely have the energy to get them out of the freezer.

Good tips. I always have food in my freezer and plan well but I do not remember to carry something with me when I am showing houses all day.

I like the smelling salts.....I think that salts would have been good.  I like diet red bull for those "late nights."

I keep water bottles in the car at all times. Frozen meals in the freezer the kids can prepare--not frozen dinner trays but the bags like Contessa or the gourmet ones. One step down from home made! Add some fresh veggies if you want and it'll taste great.

To all,

It's important to keep you and your family eating healthy food. When I see the amount of people who feed their children fast food every night, and chips and soda for snacks...all I see is an early heart attack waiting to happen.

People that are over weight should be careful about the diets they feed their children. Most people do not understand that the way they feed their children is the way they get used to eating as children and will stick with them.

Healthy food from the ground up (early childhood) will benefit your children.  Healthy food will also give you more energy.

Do you agree?

Karen - I hadn't thought of having snacks for my clients.  That is a really good idea.  It sounds like you think ahead for feeding your family, too... Boy!  Do I have some work to do...  :)

Debi,

It's really hot here in south Florida so it is always good to have a small cooler with water, gatorade, juice, crackers, and little candies.  You never know if you are showing a home to a diabetic...

I just had customer's here from a foreign country, while I didn't know and the only one that knew English knew that one of the customer's was feeling bad due to the heat...he didn't tell me.

I had supplies in the trunk and could have made her feel better...

Now, I always tell my customers, there is water, etc, snacks, etc. in the trunk, if you need them, just ask.

I guess it's my 25 year's in the medical field kicking in.

I don't go anywhere, even if it is a short ride down the street, without my cooler.  I always take water and a snack with me.  If you are not prepared with a healthy snack, you end up buying candy or fast food.  My favorite "emergency" snack  is a baggy of walnuts and raisins.

Sharon,

I always have water and I aslo have pretzels. If my car sit's in the heat here...you need something that is a dry food that won't melt.

Karen,

Get you a nuwave oven, they are great!  Easy to use and handy, and it cooks the food healthier than the oven.  Even my wife approves of this "new" gadget i aquired.

Food is overrated. I have no food in my fridge 90% of the time.

However, I have stocks of bottled water, and individually wrapped snacks like peanut butter crackers, goldfish crackers, chips, and cookies - in case my clients get the munchies, are preggers, have sugar needs, or small children.

Karen, it's great.  it cooks food in this tubulor device.  From frozen or thawed.  My wife was like "not another bloody gadget" (she's British), BUT when I made a chicken in it she was sold.  I really love it.  You can make almost anything in it.  The first few months we only used it once or twice, but now we've been more creative with it.  I made some country pork ribs in it last week and they were to die for!!  www.nuwaveoven.com.  I don't get any endorsement with the company whatsoever, just passing my approvement of it.  My mother in law from England wants one now too!!   LOL

Karen, I love to cook and don't have the time like I use to. My crockpot gets a lot of  use. Whether we've had chicken, turkey or ham, I use the bones to make soups (pea soup is my favorite)  that lasts for days. I keep cheese on hand to make grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches. Now that my daughter is in school, I make sure there's bottled water, peanut butter, pretzels, salad and yogurt for her to grab.
