I snapped a couple of pictures of Blackie this morning, and that in itself is not easy! A typical morning involves the dog and I retrieving the morning paper and perching on the front porch. This is blackie's time, Blackie patrols our front hummingbird feeder, and I DO mean patrol. Anybody and anything comes near Blackie's feeder and he wants a piece of it. He actually hovers in front of me on occasion as if to say "what're you lookin at?" not as bad as the other birds hear. I've interpreted his chirps as " get the *$#%*@# outta here!" I have a Birds of Georgia book and I believe Blackie is a Black Chinned Hummingbird. According to this type bird in the book, the males wings buzz in flight, yep, thats him. If I was a fraction as territorial as Blackie, the neighbors would have a restraining order on me! But he is committed, he never gives up, if we all had the will of Blackie, well, no one could stand up to the little guy. Ounce for ounce, the toughest dude I have ever seen!!!
