Hanna and Topsail Island

Well, mother nature was good to us this time.  We bunkered down and prepared for a lot of rain and high winds.  What did we get?  Barely any rain and some pretty strong winds but not enough to do any real damage.  I live 10 minutes from topsail island and only had leaves, limbs down in my yard and really a happy camper when i awoke at 6 am to see everything still in tack.

Some were not so fortunate in NC as up to 9 inches of rain fell leaving flooded roads and over flowing ponds and lakes.  There was one rescue in Raleigh when a man driving down the road was suddenly washed off the road from rising waters. In Durham there were over flowing ponds where the cows had to seek higher land and a couple of covers over gas tanks blown away.

Yes, it was a scare and we are very lucky. We were certainly more worried with Hurrican Ike.  That is going west and not due to strike the US until next weekend.  Lets all pray that it weakens considerably and turns out not to do alot of damage where ever it decides it is makeing landfall.

Sunshine since yesterday at 11 am and it is going to be a beautiful day!

Nice post, Judy! We received quite a few comments on our Hanna updates. Let's hope Ike spares Florida and the Gulf coast.
